not to dogpile but i’ve been a csh fan for a long time and it is so ill-conceived and a tough listen. maybe it’s because we just expect the original, but some of the changes are so awkward and tortured to actually fit into thw meter of the song. worst examples (imo) below:

“i felt like a walking piece of shit / in a stupid looking jacket” to “i felt like a walking a-li-en / in a stupid looking jacket”.

it stretches “alien” so long and feels so incredibly forced. also feeling like “an alien” is a lot cornier and less “real” than feeling like what youre wearing and doing is making you look douchey

“is the voice in your head / giving you shit again? /
you know he loves you / he doesnt mean to cause you pain” to “is the voice in your head / singing that song again”

this confuses the perspective in the following line. if you dont know the original, it scans like “he” refers to “that song” rather than “the voice”. in the original it’s clearly referring to his inner self and his self-destructive impulses rather than reference “that song”, which hasn’t been set up prior in the song

last one is obvious but “trying not to piss my pants” to “trying not to wet myself” is so juvenile and unserious i literally clutched my face cringing while listening

the new re-recordings are interesting and debatable (i like the new mix for connect the dots a little more while i think the “cleaner” mix on the vocals for killer whales is worse - super subjective though). but the new songs are pretty bad. especially Joe Drives Again is unambiguous and children’s PSA it’s actually hard to listen to

i feel like they lost the plot with this one. it almost feels like theyre soft launching a christian media partnership or something. what do yall think??
