32M hoping to make genuine connections beyond shared hobbies | A considerate & compassionate person

32M South Asian guy here. I’ve posted a few times before and figured I’d give it another shot.

I’m pretty introverted and shy by nature, and over the past year or so I’ve been making a real effort to step outside my comfort zone, socialize more, and become more comfortable with who I am.

I’ve met some genuinely great people through places like TorontoHangoutFriends and Meetup, and those experiences have made a pretty big difference for me. I’ve tried a bunch of things I never really did before — pool, badminton, table tennis, hiking, etc. — and even getting back into the gym has helped me get into much better shape and feel better overall.

The one thing I haven’t really found yet is a friendship that goes beyond doing an activity once or twice and then fading away.

I’m hoping to meet people where we can actually get to know each other — talk about life, our experiences, struggles, goals, random stuff, whatever. I think the best friendships come from being able to be yourself around someone and gradually build that connection.

As far as interests go, I’m into:

  • Toronto sports (hockey, basketball, baseball)
  • Gym/fitness
  • Pool, badminton & table tennis
  • Hiking and exploring different parts of Toronto
  • Board/card games
  • Movies, especially action/adventure, sci-fi/fantasy, comic book and comedy movies: Some favourites: Batman Begins, Die Hard, Alien, The Matrix, Spider-Man 2, Terminator 1 & 2, Jurassic Park.

I’m ideally looking to meet people around 25–35 who’ve had their own ups and downs in life, value genuine friendships, and are also looking to actually get to know someone rather than just having a one-off hangout.

If we have some things in common, feel free to send me a message.

Anyone from the Scarborough/North York/Markham area want to play pool more often? - 32M

Hey, 32M here. I’ve been getting into pool more often lately. I’ve met some good people from this sub to play pool with in the past, but the majority have been from the downtown core.

It would be great to get a regular group going with people outside of the downtown core who are interested in playing more often.

If you’re from any of the areas mentioned above and want to play more regularly, let me know! I’m also happy to travel to nearby areas, so we could potentially get a group going.

32M – Looking to Connect With Someone Who Understands Living With a Health Issue

Hey, 32M 6ft South Asian here from Scarborough. Giving this a try again. I had gotten a few responses last time but no followup afterward. Hoping for a better, more positive outcome this time.

I have posted and followed up with people on the TorontoHangoutFriends page. I've met some great people but no close friendships yet.

Everything has been centered around hobbies and activities, which has been great, but I haven’t really found that deeper connection yet—the kind where you can be yourself, talk openly about life, and feel like the other person genuinely understands where you’re coming from.

I have an autoimmune condition that negatively impacted my life when i was younger. I lost a lot of myself during years your supposed to socialize, build connections and become a productive adult, i was struggling to get by in my life. I had a very difficult time.

I spent the last number of years getting myself into better shape, and things have drastically gotten better from a physical and mental standpoint.

If I ever were to get into a relationship, because of the experiences I mentioned earlier, I'd really like to connect with someone who has gone through their own challenges in life. You don't necessarily have to have the same health issue or have experienced the same things I have.

I just think there's something meaningful about connecting with someone who understands what it's like to struggle, and who can relate to you on a deeper level.

Otherwise, I'm not sure I could see myself actively looking for a relationship in general. It feels like it would be too difficult for me right now. Ive been through too much that, being with someone more successful, doing well wouldn't be possible.

I'll list my hobbies/interests below, i know what sub im on, and what i mentioned earlier, im still open to friendships if you feel theres enough that aligns! Let me know.

In terms of interests:

- Movies: Genres im into: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Fantasy, Comic Book Movies, Comedy Movies. Favorite Movies: Batman Begins, Die Hard 1, Alien, Matrix, Spiderman 2, Terminator 1/2, Jurassic Park. What are your favorite movies/genres your into?

- Gaming: Have a switch 2 but no games yet. Wanted to get it before the price increase. Waiting for ocarina remake coming out later in the year. If anyone else has it, open to recommendations.

- Sports: Follow Toronto Sports

- Play Badminton, Table Tennis and Pool, go rock climbing sometimes, open to playing card games, and some board games depending on what they are.

- Hiking: I enjoy exploring new areas/going out for walks on trails/hiking when I can and when the weather is good).

- Gym: Gotten more active recently and into better shape.

Play badminton at Hymus and Epic Sports and wanted to see if theres anyone else interested in joining - 32M

Hey, gotten into badminton and play over at both places sometimes in Scarborough and wanted to see if theres was anyone else here interested in joining. Every Sunday theres a badminton meetup group at Epic Sport that i join sometimes to play but wanted to throw it here also. I end up going every few weeks.

It's a great group with players of all different skill levels, so whether you're just starting out like I was or you've been playing for years, it's a fun way to get some games in and meet new people.

I'm always up for playing more if schedules line up. it's easy to pick up, and the meetup group has people with a wide range of experience.

If anyone's interested, let me know or send me a message.

Edit: I'll add as I forgot, i know Pan Am Centre here in Scarborough has drop in badminton hours and im good playing there too. If anyone is interested in joining.

32m want to connect with people over common interests and/or those who've gone through hardship in there lives

Hi 32M South Asian here, ive posted on the torontohangoutfriends sub, meet some good people. No body more then once yet, and I've realized that the conversations I value most aren't necessarily with people who have the same hobbies as me—they're with people who've been through something difficult and came out of it with a different perspective.

Life hasn't always been easy for me, and I tend to connect best with people who know what it's like to carry some scars. I've had a number of health problems that affected my life drastically due to an autoimmune condition, and I lost a lot of my younger years because of it being able to connect with people and grow as a person.

I've had to fight harder then most but, Im definitely in a better place physically and mentally and spent a lot of time reaching out to folks on places like this and meetup and its made a big difference for me. Ive gotten into better shape got the right help and im a better person because of it.

I'd love to meet people who enjoy talking about life, sharing interests, and building genuine friendships. We don't have to spend all our time talking about hardship, but I appreciate the kind of honesty and empathy that often comes from people who've been through it.

If you're someone who values meaningful conversations, Tell me a little about yourself, what you're into, or something you've learned from the hard parts of your life.

I'm hoping to find people who believe that our struggles can make us more understanding, not more closed off.

In terms of my interests:

- Movies: Genres im into: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Fantasy, Comic Book Movies, Comedy Movies. Favorite Movies: Batman Begins, Die Hard 1, Alien, Matrix, Spiderman 2, Terminator 1/2, Jurassic Park. What are your favorite movies/genres your into?

- Sports: Follow Toronto Sports.

- Gotten into Pool/Badminton/Table Tennis/Rock Climbing things like that.

- Hiking: I enjoy exploring new areas/going out for walks on trails/hiking when I can and when the weather is good).

- Gym: Trying to be more active recently and get into a regular routine and cut some weight. Have made some good progress.

32m here looking to connect with people over similar interests and/or those that have gone through hardship/struggles in life (health or otherwise).

Hi, 32M South Asian here from the Scarborough area. Lived in the GTA my whole life. I know my title is quite specific but ill explain.

Ive never really posted on this sub, tried once i believe a while back but dont remember what came of it. I have on the Toronto Hangout Friends sub. Met some great people there. This is a bit different so i wanted to post here.

A lot of the problem I've had, although ive met some great people. The connections were around specific hobbies and its fine and all, to socialize and get out of the house, away from work, but given my circumstances, I really would like to connect with someone who's gone through struggles/hardship in there live in some way and hear your stories.

I really struggled badly with an autoimmune condition during my university years where I lost a number of years of my life trying to get by. Im doing better now, physically and mentally but its left a hole in my life because of it. The things your suppose to do during those years like connect and socialize I wasnt really able to do because of where I was as a person, physically and mentally.

Because its an autoimmune condition, its something that doesnt show up visibly, its not something that a lot of people understand which makes things very isolating. Not many seem to understand how much ive struggled in life.

But anyway, on a lighter note, if we have something in common, thats an additional bonus, will list below:

Movies: Genres im into: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Fantasy, Comic Book Movies, Comedy Movies. Favorite Movies: Batman Begins, Die Hard 1, Alien, Matrix, Spiderman 2, Terminator 1/2, Jurassic Park. What are your favorite movies/genres your into? Open to catching a movie in theatres.

- Gaming: Just got a Switch 2 but have no games yet. Wanted to get it before the price increase. Waiting on the Ocarina remake and will probably get SMG2.

- Sports: Follow Toronto Sports.

- Hiking: I enjoy exploring new areas/going out for walks on trails/hiking when I can and when the weather is good).

- Gym: Trying to be more active recently and get into a regular routine and cut some weight

- Gotten into Badminton, Table Tennis, Pool

- Know some board and card games like Connect Four, Chess, Checkers, Poker,

I can drive so I can connect with people from different parts of the GTA up to a certain extent (Im good with Downtown, North York, Markham, Scarborough) .

32M looking to connect with people over common interests and/or those that have gone through hardship/difficulties in there lives

Hi, 32M here. I've never posted on this sub before, although I have posted on the Toronto Hangout Friends subreddit and met some great people. However, I still felt a little empty afterward.

One thing I've come to realize is that I never really met anyone more than once—not anyone I'd consider a genuine friend (yet). I'd especially love to connect with people who've been through difficult times. I think shared experiences like that make it easier to relate to people, build genuine friendships and have conversations that go beyond small talk.

I had a miserable childhood, combined with significant health challenges during my school years that had a major impact on my life. I'm in a much better place now, physically and mentally but without going into too much detail, those experiences still left a large hole in my life because of everything I lost along the way.

I'm not really in a position to date or be in a relationship right now. I'm sorting my life out, and I'm just looking/hoping to connect with people—whether over common interests or shared life experiences. I'd like to build friendships/connections that last, rather than just meeting once and drifting apart.

I'm South Asian, born and raised in Canada.

In terms of interests ill list them below:

Interests/hobbies:

pool (gotten into pool, would be great to play with others)

badminton, table tennis, pickleball

going to the movies (action adventure,sci-fi, comic book movies)

hiking/going out when the weather's good especially during the summer months and exploring the city)

going to the gym (go to planet fitness, can bring a guest for free, go regularly)

have a switch 2 but no games yet

follow/watch Toronto Sports,

card games,

some board games like chess, checkers, connect four i dont mind

32M looking to connect with people who want to play badminton or table tennis more regularly

Hey, 32M here. Ive used meetup for badminton/table tennis and its gone ok but the crowd is generally younger. Ive tried a few times here to create set up groups here on this sub with people around my age and it hasnt gone well but giving it a try again hoping for a positive outcome.

If your in the north york/markham/downtown/scarborough area, i dont mind travelling and reaching out. I like Pan Am Centre for this, because you can play badminton and table tennis at the same time during there drop in hours, however, i understand not everyone is going to like travelling up to scarborough especially if your downtown.

32M looking for genuine connection and friendship

Hey, not sure what to expect posting on this sub, but I wanted to give it a try.

Ive had great experiences meeting people from the toronto hangouts sub, but i havent met anyone more then once yet. I’m really looking to get out there and connect with people who wants to get to know each other and is willing to put in the effort from both sides.

I’m a pretty direct person and clear-cut on a lot of things, mainly because I value honesty and want to make sure time isn’t wasted. If we’re not on the same wavelength, I’d rather know early on, so we can both move forward without any misunderstandings.

First ill say first that im from Scarborough, I’m open to connecting with people from different areas of the city, up to a certain point as well due to distance (Downtown/North York/Richmond Hill/Markham is okay for me, if your going to ask).

Just at a point given the stage of life that im in where i'm trying to meet new people build positive and meaningful friendships/connections. .

In terms of interests:

- Movies: Genres im into: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Fantasy, Comic Book Movies, Comedy Movies. Favorite Movies: Batman Begins, Die Hard 1, Alien, Matrix, Spiderman 2, Terminator 1/2, Jurassic Park. What are your favorite movies?

- TV Shows: Don’t follow much new TV Shows lately. More into shows like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. Some of the comedies I know/still watch from time to time: Fresh Prince, Seinfeld, The Office. Whose Line is it Anyway. Malcolm in the Middle.

- Sports: Follow Hockey (Leafs), Basketball (Raptors).

- I've been getting into playing pool more often, open to other activities that I would like to get into like badminton, table tennis, pickleball. If anyone is up for playing any of these let me know!

- Open to group card games/some board games depending on what it is.

- Hiking: I enjoy exploring new areas of the city/going out for walks on trails/hiking when I can in the east end (well when the weather is good).

- Gym: Trying to be more active recently and get into a regular routine and cut some weight. Have a Planet Fitness Membership after they got a bunch of new equipment, making it worthwhile now. Would be great to have a gym buddy/friend to go with

I'm trying to connect with people and build positive friendships. I've had great experiences here but havent met people more then once yet. I think part of it, is the distance to downtown. Im hoping to connect with people outside the downtown core Closer to scarborough/north york/markham area.

Work 3 days a week, Friday's/Weekend are perfect for availability.

In terms of interests/hobbies:

Interests:

- Movies: Genres im into: Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Fantasy, Comic Book Movies, Comedy

- Sports: Mostly Basketball. .

Hey, 32M from Scarborough here, Ive been on this sub for a while now and joined/started various groups and have had great experiences meeting different people from here and have had a great time. Nothing has lasted yet and im trying to reach out now again and make a separate post in the hopes of a different outcome.

Connecting with/meeting with people sometimes gets difficult cause of distance. Its a barrier and i get that, Scarborough/North York/Markham/Downtown, is reasonable for me in terms of distance.

I'm coming off of a difficult stretch in my life with a significant amount of setbacks and difficulties with physical and mental health and ive prioritized myself as of late with better results, and a better outlook on life. Self improvement and self relfection combined with reaching out and meeting new people has made a tremendous difference. You need to be comfortable enough with yourself as a person.

In terms of hobbies/interests that im up for talking about.

- Watching sports: Lately, Following the NBA playoffs. Can catch a game somewhere. Mainly in general though, Toronto Sports ( Raptors,Jays, Leafs).

- WWE

- Been playing a lot of pool lately. Super fun. Gotten a lot better.

- Card games (Group games are fun)

- Went go karting a few times which was fun, at K1 Speed at Downsview.

- one thing i've heard about that i would love to do is ATV rides.

- I do know some board games, so it depends but im generally not into it. Connect Four, Chess, Checkers, Open to others. played monopoly, risk long long time ago.

- Can play table tennis/badminton (this is one thing i'd like to do more, ive tried making groups here and it didnt go well, so if your interested i'd definitely like to play more often)

- Ive been to a indoor golf driving range that i enjoy quite a bit. Quite relaxing and peaceful.

- Gaming (have a switch, play a lot of retro titles, more of a Nintendo Guy cause of it).

- watching, going to the movies (comic book movies, action adventure, sci-fi),

- Hikes when the weather is good

- Gym: (Go to planet fitness, can bring a guest for free, usually go to either the Markham or Steeles location).

- TV shows (watch a lot of older comedies/dramas)

I’ve shared quite a bit here, so I believe there should be some common ground between us somewhere. If you’re coming out of—or still navigating—a tough stretch, or if we share similar interests/some activities you would be up for doing/open to doing new things in general. I think we’d get along really well.
