Deck Build Issues

I'm close to doing a walk through with our GC and the framers that did the structure for our major remodel prior to the next money draw and have some concerns with the quality/materials used on the deck. This is located near the East Coast of Florida and I'd love some feedback rather than relying on the inspector to save me. I know enough to be dangerous but y'all are far more experienced than me so please chime in. I'll provide pictures and respond to comments as best I can. In no particular order;

  1. I'm pretty sure they used bright nails instead of proper (galvanized? SS?) nails since the work was done less than 3 months ago and the heads are all rusty. I may pull one to see but any tips on making sure I bring receipts here and don't get brushed off.

  2. 70% of joists and band joists (2 and 3 and 4 sandwich beams) don't have any screws tieing them together (GRK?) I see a few on the structure but not where I would expect them.

  3. Hangars are missing in obvious places, including where the tie in to the house is. Wtf.

  4. I suspect Hangars may be missing in non obvious places, need y'all to chime in here.

  5. Warped/bowed members and garbage level blocking.

  6. Flashing issue on large sliding door sill.

  7. Are there any hurricane tie type items missing that I'm not seeing?

  8. Missing Zip Tape on lower edge of cutout for dog door (makes me so frustrated as I've mentioned zip tape issues like this repeatedly)

  9. Ground level too close to structure. I was surprised that the GC pushed back on me on this one but if they do that again I'll just ask if the material is rated for ground contact and watch them squirm.

  10. Split beam for garage awning and lack of hurricane ties/measures on the same.

Also, please point out anything I did not enumerate as I don't know what I don't know.

Diy Drawer Pulls

Doing a kitchen remodel and want to capture this look and feel while also practicing my knotwork. I'd be doing it for about a dozen or so drawers with the addition of not a few monkey's fist (or maybe another stopper/crown knot) for cabinet handles.

I'm not totally unfamiliar with ropework and love my copies of the Ashely book, Marlinespike Sailor, and Sail makers Apprentice but aside from making some gromets, basic sewing/embroidery, and some eye splices, back splices, and a dozen or so functional knots, I'm very much a neophyte when it comes to fancy work so I figured I'd lean on y'all and crowd source this with y'all instead of trial and error or trusting an AI to try to not make a mess of things.

Basically I'd love ideas regarding the following:

  1. choosing/sourcing the attachment hardware (or perhaps the omission of the same via something I haven't considered yet?)

  2. choosing/sourcing the rope size and strand and material?

  3. identifying the splice/knot so I can refer to my reference materials and the web to problem solve. To me it looks like a back splice or two with a turks head covering the middle?

  4. alternative methodologies altogether that are worth considering.

Cheers and thanks for your help!

First Timer, will be back!

Finished this up. Lots of lessons learned, I'm ok with the mistakes, maybe they go with the post-apocalyptic vibe of the subject.

Also, very interested in Flow Method for possible future projects that I could see doing as gifts for good friends/family. Who knows!

Nausicaa newbie here! (day 3)

LovinAnime spur of the moment purchase that sat for a year or so until now.

First time painting anything since elementary school probably and definitely first paint by numbers.

Pray for me. I'm enjoying the progress. Also, I'm so glad I have a decent set of brushes from Amazon and not the garbage ones that came with the kit.

Tips welcome, I basically went YOLO and just picked the colors that were most prevalent in the top of the painting and am working my way through them, going left to right as I go top to bottom for each color. Seems to work well thus far with the particular image especially? Maybe I'm supposed to do dark colors last? Oh well...

Tutor/Lesson Request as a Gift

Greetings everyone,

Forgive me if this is a bit out of the norm but I'm hoping I can leverage this community here to maybe help me or point me in the right direction.

Basically I have a friend of the family with an eleven year old son who is pretty talented with drawing in anime/manga style for his age and I'm looking to find a way TO PAY someone who would be interested in helping out him out as a birthday gift. Whether that's through virtual mentoring or critiquing his work and providing feedback or whatnot.

He's a cool kid but, without going into details, also has some behavioral idiosyncracies that make traditional learning methods less than ideal so some flexibility or understanding of that is part of the job description/ask.

I don't know what's a fair price or even what format could be best suited for his needs but I'd throw a hundred bucks (perhaps in a tiered or incremental fashion to make sure I'm protected and the fit is good for everyone) so, uh, yeah, I guess I'll happily reply to comments here and try to answer questions to find a good solution.

As to additional information, he's into all sorts of things from Sonic the Hedgehog to Invincible to 5 nights. Media is paper and pencil and ink pen and sharpie and the like. I'll try to link some of his stuff here in the post but I'm less than skilled with reddit posts so c'est la vie.

Thanks!
