Sour or bitter shots on ECM Puristika vs Lelit Mara X (Eureka Single Dose Pro)

I recently picked up a used ECM Puristika for a bargain price (€500). It’s in good condition. I cleaned it thoroughly, backflushed the grouphead and everything seems to work properly. For comparison, I also have a Lelit Mara X that I bought new about a year ago. I’m using the same grinder, the same coffee (medium roast, local roaster, around 8 days off roast), and I’m trying to keep the recipe the same. But I consistently get a much better tasting espresso from the Mara X. With the Puristika, the shots often turn out either too sour or too bitter. I can’t seem to find that sweet spot the way I can with the Mara X.

I’m using a Eureka Mignon Single Dose Pro.

The previous owner told me they always used filtered water, and the water coming from the group head tastes completely normal to me.

I’m wondering what could explain the difference. Could it be a difference in brew temperature? Or could it be related to pre-infusion?

ECM Classika PID → Profitec MOVE demo: upgrade or sideways move? [No budget]

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using an ECM Classika PID, and I really like the machine. The espresso quality is excellent and I’ve been very happy with it overall.

The only thing that bothers me a little is milk steaming. Since it’s a single boiler, switching from brewing to steaming and back is a bit cumbersome when making milk drinks.

I have the opportunity to buy a Profitec MOVE demo model from a local dealer at a good price, 1699 euro.

Would you consider this an upgrade, or is it more of a sideways move?

I don’t have any brand loyalty, so if you think there’s another machine in the same price range that would be a better choice, I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Scored a Sage Bambino Plus for €30! (With an Unexpected Twist)

Hey everyone! This week I picked up a Sage Bambino Plus for just €30. The seller said the steam wand wasn’t working, but espresso was fine. After some digging, I realized it was just incredibly dirty—the automatic steaming failed due to a clogged sensor. I gave it a full clean, replaced the rubber ring, and now it pulls espresso! I also bought some small accessories for €40.

On top of that, I scored a used Eureka Mignon Libra from a German site for €175. It was a demo used in courses, but it’s in great shape. Also, I have an ECM Synchronica model, which costs about €2500.

Just wanted to share—what a fun espresso journey!
