Debating starting the forever save again to shiny hunt my starter

Pretty much as the title says. I’m currently in Goldenrod with 2 badges, game time is around 12 hours.

I’ve only ever shiny hunted once, and that was for Charmander when Fire Red released on switch, which took me around 2 weeks.

Is it worth it? Or is it not worth the time? My only thoughts is that since it’s a forever save, I’m really in no rush at all

Elekid via Pokewalker

Have just purchased a Pokewalker for the first time and wanted to use Elekid (eventually Electivire) as I’m not a massive fan of Ampharos.

How easy/quickly can I get one via Pokewalker? I’ve never used one before so have 0 knowledge lol

New to IVs

First time checking IVs, I’ve been resetting my HG save for a good nature Cyndaquil, eventually got Modest which works for the move set I planned.

Never checked IVs before, I think I’ve calculated correctly. Are these good? Bad? Average?

Planning a forever save

Bought a real copy of Heartgold rather than an SD card, so wanting to do a forever save.

Have my team all planned out, going to try and complete the Pokédex and Battle Frontier.

Any tips or tricks for along the way? So I don’t end up missing something and starting again lol

Team building options: Lanturn or Slowking?

So I’ve never used Slowking before, and the thought of a bulky Slowking with Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam, and Calm mind/Nasty plot sounds great.

However I also love Lanturn for its bulk and typing, plus it frees up a spot with no need for Ampharos.

Thoughts?

Safari zone help

So I’m currently trying to complete the Kanto dex for the first time, and I’m at the safari zone hunting for the “low percentage” pokemon.

Chansey, Tauros, Kangaskhan are the 3 I need, so just wondered if anyone had tips of advice for finding and catching? I’ve seen people hunt Chanseys for lucky eggs and end up catching like 30, I just want one lol

Team thoughts

So I’m currently trying to complete the Pokédex on Fire Red, but of course that requires some Leaf Green playthrough and trades

I’ve gone for some Pokemon that I’ve never used before, just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on changes or move sets?

Also how long it roughly takes to find a Thick Club for Marowak? Currently EV training in Lavender tower on Fire Red so also searching for one simultaneously

Raichu or Shiny Vileplume?

So my plan was:

- Charizard
- Nidoking
- Alakazam
- Lapras
- Raichu
- Dragonite

But finding a shiny Oddish near Cerulean has thrown a spanner in the works. Currently I have both in my team, but when Lapras arrives I’ll have to box Raichu or Vileplume.

I’ve included the move sets, Vileplume Sunny day/Solarbeam would work well with Charizard, while Raichu adds Thunder wave + Electric STAB.

Thoughts?

Dragonite final move

So I’ve a mild Dratini from Celadon after a few resets, which will help me make the most of Outrage. I was going to add Thunderbolt TM to counter Ice weakness since most ice types are also water, but didn’t know if Brick Break would be better as it makes better use of Dragonites better attack stat?

I know I could get rid of Thunder Wave and have both, but I like having at least one pokemon with a status move like such.

So Brick Break or Thunderbolt?

New to EV training

So planning another Fire Red run this week, this time planning on completing the Dex for the first time, along with EV training also for the first time.

Going with the team in picture, any advice for when to train for EVs?

Planning on Charizard being a special attacker, Nidoking being physical, with Raichu and Dragonite a bit of both. Lapras and Alakazam special of course

Battle Frontier

So ive never really spent too much time on the Battle Frontier on any game, but im planning a forever save on Heartgold after starting a save probably 20+ times over the years.

I’m planning on attempting to beat all 5 Frontier Brains for the star on the trainer card, but wondered how important natures/EVs are?

Can I beat the Frontier without EV training, or would you say it’s a must due to the difficulty?

I usually try to get natures with an advantage anyway for whichever pokemon I use, but EV training I have never done.

Team opinions

So whenever I start a new save, I like to primarily use pokemon from that region. I know togekiss is technically sinnoh, but since we get the egg in johto I’m trying togekiss for the first time. I also don’t like to have the same as my rival, so decided against the zubat line.

Does anyone have any recommended movesets on these? Or even suggestions for different members. I know everyone says just use the pokemon you like, which is what I’m doing, just open to any other ideas before I start.

Also I know Tyranitar is a long road to level up and evolve. But I like having a suedo legendary and didn’t want to copy lance with Dragonite.

Stop loss

Ive been paper trading the last few months when time allows, predominantly scalping small stocks after starting out by watching Ross Cameron.

I trade on TradingView and only do market orders for their speed and guaranteed entry fill, with the stop loss calculated and added before the trade is entered, usually I set this at around -5%, depending on how much the price is moving.

When I do get stopped out, the amount is usually enough to wipe out any winnings of that day, as my winners are usually small, but there will be a few of them, rather than one large winning trade.

Now I can lower my stop loss to say -2%, but then I feel like I would get stopped out more without letting the price have chance to move.

Does anyone have any advice for placing stop losses, ideally people who also use the scalping strategy?

Journaling

So I’m almost at the end of “How to Day Trade for a Living”, the book by Andrew Aziz, and he’s saying how journaling is the number 1 most important aspect to improving as a day trader.

I’ve also seen a lot of other people say this on videos and forums.

Does anyone have a good journaling template they could share, or recommend an (ideally free) journaling software?

I don’t mind paying if it’s worth it, one where you can import the trades easily etc.

TIA

Final slot ideas?

Thinking either a ground type to counter electric and poison, or a special attacker like Gengar.

Or I hold out and just go with the Dratini after beating Claire

Scalping advice

Still very new to trading, started by watching a lot of Ross Cameron on YouTube, so naturally became interested in scalping strategy/trading breaking news in small caps.

Does anyone here also follow this strategy with success? I’ve heard mixed reviews, some love it some avoid it. Just looking for advice, good or bad.

Also looking for recommendations on broker for scalping, as I’ve heard different brokers suit different strategies.

Confirmation message

Unable to remove order confirmation message, despite having instant submission ticked and all messages turned off in settings?

Only when taking orders, not when selling?

u/ryanstephenson4 — 27 days ago

Order confirmation page

So I’m still in the paper trading stage of my trading journey, I’ve recently setup my hotkeys for how I’d like them. But even when using the hot keys, I’m still getting an order confirmation message that I have to mouse click to confirm?

I’ve ticked instant submission, and also turned off all messages in the settings, but it still asks me to confirm?

However it is only when buying, selling is instant with no order confirmation message.

Turning off trading restrictions

I’m still relatively new to day trading, I’ve been using the IBKR paper trading account for the last month or so after switching from WeBull.

Theres been quite a few instances of finding the right stock, waiting for an entry, but my order being declined due to restrictions such as margin concern or small cap stock.

If it was a real account with money then I’d understand, but paper trading? Is there anyway to turn these restrictions off?

Opinions on team, open to suggestions

- Typhlosion

- Crobat

- Slowking

- Scizor

- Gengar

- Tyranitar

I don’t usually like to have type crossovers, but both Crobat and Gengar cover their psychic defense well. I also wanted to use Gengar in gen 4, and didn’t want more than one slow/bulky pokemon in Noctowl so opted Crobat.

I know tyranitar is slow to level but I always like having a second ‘ace’ on my team. And I have a second ds so the trade evolutions are no issue.

Open to thoughts/ move suggestions
