Sea Power Tutorial - Towed Arrays Are Deadly in Surface Warfare

Sea Power Tutorial - Towed Arrays Are Deadly in Surface Warfare

I think this has become very obvious to many of you but the passive classification of enemy vessels at long range by towed arrays is incredibly powerful.

IRL I was an SQR-19 tech and led the work center for it before becoming in charge of the sonar division and one of the very first things I tried when I bought Sea Power was putting my tail out in a surface warfare scenario. I was bummed when I found ships couldn’t passively detect ships.

Well, the 0.8 release was huge when the sonar rework allowed for this and if you’re not exploiting sonar against surface vessels you’re missing out on a realistic way to classify things while at EMCON (or not).

How an old sonar supervisor runs the Palawan Passage

This was such a fun mission for me. The more submarines to sink, the happier I am lol

Task Group 77.3 Enters Combat

We finally send Task Group 77.3 into harms way to start our Pacific Strike play through. Because of my destroyer and frigate roots, we’re going to aim to build our task group with just those vessels and see how we fare.

The Kiwis doing some finishing work in Sunda Strait

It was awesome watching them go to work. I really like that they drop in pairs instead of a full bomb load so they could hit multiple targets in the sortie.

Building Task Group 77.3 | Sea Power Task Force Mode Begins

Finally getting started with the Task Force mode and the Pacific Strike campaign. I’ve played the campaign a while ago back when it was a standalone Steam workshop addition but I am excited to play it now with our own built up task group.

We got a mixed bag of units which seem really ASW stacked but I’ll show you guys the towed array’s usefulness in surface warfare when we get the campaign underway. (I’ve also got a tutorial on using a couple of Knox class and couple of Coontz class to kill a Kirov thanks to the new sonar changes coming next week.)

Casablanca-esque CVE

Just picked up the game during the Steam summer sale and wanted to do a CVE for my second ship. Looking forward to the ASW update in the future, this will serve as the flagship of a hunter killer task force. Next on the plate is probably a DE inspired by the Buckley class.

Sea Power Beta - Testing Sea Power's New Sonar Model in Mind the Gap

This was filmed with the first round of sonar updates. I’m loving all the recent updates. By now we’ve got long hull OHPs added with their tails and submarine AI starting to be tinkered with. This has been a great month for Sea Power !

Striking a rear depot on WWX

This was fun (you’ll see it doesn’t end how I’d like lol). Three of us went to go attack a rear depot. One came out with shrikes and rockets to suppress the neighboring SA-2 site. On WWX supplies actually move on the map via truck convoys in the game world and feed supplies to combating AI units on the front line. You can disrupt this in a big way if you cut off these supplies by smashing the rear depot to help your team out.

The F-100 is so much fun with friends

Flew this out with three others on the WWX server running Syria. Hit the supply depot and made it back after getting hit by AAA. I am not a jet guy but I love this plane!

Generally it feels good when you fly it under 190-200kph (the max cruise speed). I found some other interesting discrepancies in how it hovers as well as the behavior of the main rotor RPM when the engine is out.
