5. Pilot Toki Raden One of 900 numbered pieces made for Pilot's 90th anniversary in 2008, out of production since. Raden mother-of-pearl on urushi: each fragment hand-selected and inlaid, no two examples identical. The subject is the toki (鴇), the Japanese crested ibis, whose plumage gave the Japanese language the colour word toki-iro. The last individual born in Japan died in 2003, five years before this pen was made. 18K M nib. Never inked. Lacquer tarnish treated with camellia oil, the traditional Japanese urushi conservation method. Nacre intact, no cracks or losses. Original box included.1,550€

Pilot Kokkokai "seirei nuri" · Dragonfly · Togidashi maki-e .N Pilot Kokkokai togidashi maki-e: the dragonfly and the urushi ground fused into a single continuous surface, the motif polished flush. The tonbo is the kachimushi, the victory insect of samurai culture: anatomically incapable of flying backward, it has been the emblem of unconditional forward commitment since the Muromachi period. 9. Sailor "Eien no Bara" (永久の薔薇) · Empress Michiko 80th Anniversary · Kaga maki-e · 840 pieces · 2014 . B Kaga maki-e by Ōshita Kōsen, 4th generation, Kanazawa, certified traditional craft heritage. Same artisan who produced the preceding Sailor imperial commemorative (Murasaki no Yorokobi, 2011, 950 pieces). Motif: eternal rose, reflecting Empress Michiko's personal association with flowers. She was the first commoner to enter the Japanese imperial family. This is the rarer of the two Kaga maki-e Sailor imperial series: 840 vs 950 pieces. Nib 14k MF Paulownia box, Engraved 800**€**
