Turning ringer off phones to take a break

Kind of an AITA situation?

I work front desk at a hotel. I am often left by myself, with no reservations person, supervisor, manager etc.

This has been going on for long enough that I have my own routine down and for the most part don't struggle unless it's a day work 150+ check outs or just a day where everything seems to be going wrong.

The only problem is, I don't get a break or a lunch because I am effectively doing the job of 4 people. Is it inappropriate for me to silence the phones for 15 minutes to sit and catch a breath? The way I see it, people aren't getting through anyways because I'm doing my front desk things, and another 15 minutes won't kill anyone. It's also a matter of my boss scheduling incorrectly/the result of their horrendous leadership that has us short 10 people.

That's mainly where I think my actions are justified but it's also that good ol' work culture guilt.

ETA: I have my boss aware of this, got told to quit complaining and to 'be a ream player'

Trying to tailor my resume

I'm on the job hunt. I'm currently a front desk agent at a hotel and was previously concierge for a spa inside the hotel. A lot of the jobs I've been applying for are front desk/receptionist for healthcare clinics, dental offices, etc.

I have no experience in those types of roles but I feel like my skills from the hotel could easily be transferred to them. I guess I'm looking for a way to communicate that as I'm applying for jobs. I also have 10+ years of customer service on top of it.

I'm familiar with billing practices, making reservations/appointments, accommodating guests, POS experience, etc etc. I'm also wondering if there's any online courses I could take to make myself more marketable? I am at my wits end at this job and desperately need an escape lmfao

Critiques/suggestions on policies?

Hi! So, I'm slowly starting to build a clientele outside of family and friends and recently put together some policies for my clients. Looking for some feedback before I post it. I'm also thinking of a refund policy, if anyone has suggestions!! Most of my clients are lash extension clients, for context, but I also offer facials, brows wax/lam/tint and lash lifts/tints.

-$15 non-refundable (unless cancelled by me) that goes towards the price of the service required at time of booking.
-If you are 15 minutes late, you'll be considered a no-show and will have to reschedule.
-If guest must cancel, they must do it a day prior to the service.
-Additional guests are not permitted unless we discuss it before the appointment.

Thanks, everyone!!

Anyone use GlossGenius?

Gloss isn't showing my availability for today??

I have it marked as I'm working pretty much all day to day on my end, but my client said today was completely greyed out and they were unable to schedule any services. How do I fix this??

Flossing: flossers vs string

NAD here: I'm sure this is will yield more opinionated answers than factual but I'm curious. My bf's dentist approves of their patients using flossers, because it's better than not flossing at all. On the flip side, my dentist said that flossers are essentially useless, help nothing, and traditional floss is the sure fire method.

I will never understand why being upset about and vocalizing valid concerns is seen as complaining.

TLDR: I work at front desk a hotel (check my post from yesterday for more detail) and have been left by myself on high occupancy days. We've had 100+ check outs and sold out events the last two days and probably will for the rest of the weekend. I've been completely by myself, to run the front desk, answer phones, process paper work for said events, and help guests on top of everything else my job entails.

I didn't get a break. I didn't get a lunch. Nothing. Which, if it was just this weekend I wouldn't have a problem with but the issue is, it's everyday--even on slow days. Like, we had *five* people on swings, while I was left by myself with lines, no bathroom break, etc.

I, rightfully, voiced my discontent to my supervisor (I thought that's what supervisors were around for? To come to when you had an issue??), it got back to my boss--cue a text in the work chat talk about how complaining doesn't help anything and what matters is coming in and doing your job anyways.

We've lost 9 people in the last 6 months. Why, as a boss, would you continue to run the department in a way that would continue to make you lose people? Literally the only reason I'm still there is because I just started a small business and the somewhat consistent schedule allows me to do my side gig.

I won't be that person who comes to this sub all the time, lol. It's just nice to scream into the void and spare the people in my life from my venting 😂😂

Almost straight out of school, I secured a job in a hotel spa that provided everything. Sadly, it shut down in October of last year but it gave me the push to start my own business.

As someone starting essentially from scratch, what advice do you have for someone building their own business? I was lucky enough to find an affordable booth, which just so happens to be in the same space my sister rents at. The owner and other techs are so supportive at helping me by sharing my page, I've ordered business cards and have even become certified in lash extensions to cast a wider net, so to speak.

*Supposedly* the hotel director is selling my coworkers and I our products and such but they've been telling us that since September of last year and nothing has come of it. In the meantime, I've been product, towel warmers, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help 🫶🏼
