Did I Make A Mistake?

I’m a new closer with TJ’s after working a customer service desk job that was driving me crazy. After only two shifts I feel like my back hurts in places it’s never hurt before. Our store is really narrow and crowded so you constantly have to twist and lift heavy things in like the worst way possible. I needed a job other than my old one so I took this and I’m starting to think I made a horrible mistake.

I also agreed to do five days a week and thinking of three more days of this straight actually makes my head spin. If I ask them to cut it to four days because of the physicality is that grounds for termination?

Does it get better? Do you build strength over time or should I look for a new job already? What do you guys think? Thanks.

Recommendation for knee pads?

New to TJ’s and curious what y’all recommend for wearable knee pads. Something you can wear over your pants without slipping.

Calling out sick with no sick time

I know this differs based on location, but I’m wondering generally what it takes to excuse an absence without sick time? I have a bad fever and used up the last of my sick time today but I don’t think I’ll be better tomorrow morning.

Does it have to be a doctor’s note? Is a photo of my 102 degree thermometer good enough? I wanna ask my supervisor but worry they’ll think I’m trying to weasel out of work for the holiday weekend when I rlly just feel like crap lol.

How do y’all go about it? Thanks.

What is this type of shading called?

UPDATE: screen tone / halftone is what i was looking for, thanks for your help!

The shading effect on their faces that looks like tiny dots or stars… what is it called and how do you create it on traditional paper? I imagine there’s digital pens for it that I can find but I don’t even know what to search.

How do y’all not let customers get under your skin??

I work in sales for building materials for contractors. So I deal with a lot of hard-headed idiots. And unfortunately, mostly regular customers who I see multiple times a week.

There’s a lot of bartering, impatience, ignorance and all-around stupidity. So I have customers I dislike. Many of them know I dislike them because we’ve had disagreements. Luckily my boss stands by me which they don’t like.

So these individuals often say and do shit in an effort to offend me. Small, subtle things. Little comments. Body language. Nothing substantial enough worth bringing up to my boss but enough that it irks me. And I’m not good at hiding my anger. I’m not good at disguising my feelings on my face either.

I just wish I was strong enough to ignore it and not let it get to me. But I think I wear my buttons on my sleeve and it’s not hard to press them.

How have y’all built a resistance to people who wanna berate and mistreat you simply because you’re in customer service? How do you resist giving it back to them and being the bigger person. I suck at being the bigger person! 😭

TLDR: What helps you put up with more subtle mistreatment from customers like small comments and body language. How do you resist mirroring it so that it can’t be used against you by your leadership?
