How do I put myself out there more when interacting with others? Advice on building confidence?

Hello. Just wanted to reach out after my last post about interacting with parents.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StudentTeaching/comments/1vmvxyr/comment/p3i6jps/?context=3

So I ended up being a fly on the wall on my first day. The first day of school was quite chaotic with parents going in and out of the classroom and wanting to interact with the lead teacher (rightfully so). They weren't aware of a student teacher so I was basically a stranger. I tend to be more reserved and with all the chaos happening it felt strange to just insert myself. I didn't want to overstep and get in the way of the lead teacher.

A letter was sent home so hopefully all parents are aware of me by now. My lead teacher will also introduce me again during her slide presentation at back-to-school night next week.

Do you have any advice on putting myself out there more? Maybe stand by the door as families are coming in to greet them? I also don't want to overstep and do too much.

Tips on interacting with parents?

Hello. I start my student teaching placement soon and would love to hear if you all had any advice on meeting or interacting with parents. Super excited to meet the littles, but parent interactions have always made me anxious even when I was working as a para.

Students will walk to class with their parents on the first day of school so I will likely meet every child's parent. Do I just smile and say "Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Ms. X and I'll be student teaching with Mrs. Y this year"? this seems so silly lol but please help. Thank you! <3

Are skirts and dresses professional attire?

Hello. I was told by my college to treat my year-long student teaching as a job interview by always dressing professionally. I plan to follow this advice with my slacks and blouses. However, I was wondering if long, flowy skirts and dresses (no patterns) were appropriate to wear for days when I want to switch things up. I'm a woman in her 20s and will be placed at an elementary school.

Thank you for your help!

How do I quit my job?

Hello. I'm just wondering how do I go about this process. Do I contact the principal and secretary? What do I say?

A little context, I started this job sometime last school year, and am still in my probationary period. I was planning to come back, but now I have to leave to go to grad school. It is summer break right now so I'm not sure if they will reply. Thank you!

[Product Question] Aside from the spf, are there any differences between these two La Roche-Posay sunscreens?

Hello. These two sunscreens are priced exactly the same so wouldn't it make sense to pick up the 100 spf over the 60 spf?

Are there any notable differences between these two in terms of texture or application? Does one feel heavier than the other? Thank you for the help!

Lightweight yet hydrating serums for dull skin

Hi. I have oily, acne-prone skin and would like a light yet hydrating serum to help with dullness. I'm currently using salicylic acid and retinal in my routine so I would prefer a serum that does not contain any actives. Thank you! <3

[Product Question] Rael miracle clear line. Is it any good?

Hi. Love their pimple patches, but does anyone have experience with Rael's miracle clear line? I have oily, acne-prone skin so I'm really intrigued by these products.

Also, their barrier cream contains succinic acid (tbh I'm not super familiar with this ingredient but google says it's a gentle exfoliant). Could I use this barrier cream with their exfoliating cleanser? Or would that be exfoliation overload? Thank you 🩷

Is this a good peaches and cream scent?

Hi, I'm looking for a creamy peach scent and came across this one in my search. I do love sweet scents but nothing that's too overly sugary or gourmand. I read that this fragrance was recently relaunched so it smells a lot lighter and less gourmand than what it used to be, which got me interested. Do y'all think this a good option for someone who's looking for a light creamy peach that's sweet but not doing too much? I tend to avoid anything super cupcake or vanilla heavy.

If you have other recs that matches this scent profile, I'd love to hear! Thank you 💕

Creamy peach scent recommendations?

Hi, I picked up this lotion on a whim and am in LOVE with the scent. As the bottle describes, it's a peach milk scent. I would say it's creamy, fruity, and airy. I'd love to hear if anyone has any perfume suggestions to pair with this lovely lotion. Thank you!

Teachers of SoCal, is becoming a teacher a bad financial move?

Hi teachers of reddit,

I graduated with a degree in education a few years ago and have been working as an instructional aide for some time now. However, I have major doubts about becoming a teacher when I think about my future salary.

I'm currently living with my parents, but will likely be on my own when I finish school and start working as a teacher.

I know teachers don't do it for the money, but will I be able to at least support myself? Will I be saying goodbye to purchasing a home one day or raising a family?

I live modestly and the goal is to just be comfortable. I'm first-gen, grew up low-income. I only want to give my children a comfortable life one day without the stress of being paycheck to paycheck.

If you could do it all over again, would you still choose teaching or advise me to look for a different career?

Accepted into law school but no longer interested in pursuing law

Hi. Just wanna share something that’s been weighing heavily on my mind. If anyone has ever been in a similar situation, please share your experience and any words of wisdom. This has been eating me alive for too long 😭

After a disappointing cycle filled with rejections and waitlists last year (2024-25), I decided that I would reapply to law school. I studied my ass off to improve my LSAT score, hired a consultant to look over my application materials, and applied way more broadly. Fortunately, I’ve been accepted into several great law schools and am now committed to an out-of-state t50 school on a partial scholarship.

My parents are happy. Everyone has been has been congratulating me and sharing how proud they are of this accomplishment. This was supposed to be a joyous and exciting time in my life, but I feel like I’m about to make the biggest mistake.

So for context, during the time that I was reapplying to law school, I also started a new job back in October that was completely non law related. I needed the work and a friend happened to connect me to the job. I didn’t think too much of it at first, but as time went on I started to fall in love with the job and the field as a whole.

Since then, I’ve started to seriously consider keeping this current job and potentially attending graduate school in this field rather than continue pursuing law…

Over the past month, I’ve been dealing with insomnia and panic attacks due to the mental stress of all this. I feel immense guilt and shame over the fact that I’ve poured two years worth of my time and money into pursuing law only to not go anymore.

I don’t even know how to face my parents. I feel like I’m letting all of the people around me down. Law school starts in two months…and to drop this bomb on them pains me so much.

[routine help] Actually effective ways / products to fade hyperpigmentation?

Hi friends. I've always dealt with stubborn post acne hyperpigmentation spots. They eventually go away with time, but it just takes forever even with consistent use of skincare products. To combat this specific issue, I've been using an azaleic acid serum daily and a salicylic acid toner 1-2x a week for the past several months (in addition to my basic routine of double cleansing, moisturizer, and sunscreen).

I'm wondering if y'all had any tips to share about this topic or recs for products that really made difference in fading your dark spots. Thank you in advance <3
