Promenade Mall, Tulsa (2021)

Been to Tulsa a number of times. The place was still operational at the time but very spooky. The food court was absurd (that’s me behind the counter). Dillard’s was about the only remaining store that felt normal. The whole place got shut down in 2023.

stopper for plunger (bean storage)

I learned recently of this subreddit and the fact that I am not alone in wanting to find ways to save space when traveling with coffee gear. I had been putting beans into a small jar. I do 3-4 overnights per month so I only need to bring enough to brew two Aero cups in the AM before i leave my hotel.

It dawned on me recently that the plunger is a ton of useable space. I saw it was right around 2" ID so I started looking into this. Stoppers have 'trade sizes' and a #11 stopper is about 2.2" at the top and 1.8" at the tapered end. I got the stopper on Amazon uxcell White Tapered Shaped Solid Rubber Stopper for Lab Tube Stopper Size 11: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific for $8.09 and it fits perfectly and I think it would be tough to dislodge it accidentally.

I was a little worried about any potential smell from the rubber but I detect basically zero. The beans aren't really in contact with the stopper and even if they were, they will make contact for 24 hours max. I have yet to travel with this but I probably will next week.

Hopefully this hasn't already been documented 100 times before!

edit: this is only for traveling for single overnight trips. i think that was clear above but perhaps not.
