Regarding zoo hypothesis, star systems are cages for existing civilisations. Distances are too vast for any meaningful travel attempts, travelling at relativistic speed may be impossible due to interstellar dust or material attrition caused by particles or yet unknown natural phenomena. We are listening to signals that give sense to our understanding of the universe, yet we cannot have meaningful conversations with earth born animals. It is possible that we had contact without us realizing it, because alien transmissions work at timescales of centuries and can be redshifted so we see them as noise? Anthropocentric expectations and limitations may be one of the factors for getting contacted or recognizing we have contact.
