Hot Spot trailer is very cyberpunk and I’m here for it

Hi folks. This isn’t an ad, I swear. The trailer for Hot Spot just popped up and it’s giving me deep cyberpunk vibes. It wasn’t on my radar at all! Has anybody heard of this?? I’m excited for it.

Trailer

“In a near-future society ruled by sentient AI, a private eye who's investigating a murder case encounters a rebel group that's capable of undermining the digital overlord.”

I watched Akira in 4K at the cinema last night

And it was bloody amazing! I love this movie so much. Seeing it for the first time, on a big screen, in a practically sold out cinema was an awesome experience. You could hear a pin drop.

Fun to note that it screened back to back with Godzilla (1954) in 4K as well.

Is this the appropriate sub for this post? Akira is pretty cyberpunk.

Looking for mind-fuck games

As the title suggests, I’m looking for games that will mind-fuck me. I read a lot of Philip K Dick and other strange fiction, so I’m hoping to jump into games with a similar vibe.

I have SOMA, Superliminal, Control, and Observer: Redux on my list already. I’ve played The Stanley Parable but that was years ago.

Can you suggest any others?

I’m on PC and Steam Deck.

Confusion about sale price

Guys, I’m a bit slow and not a huge gamer, so can someone please explain why Steam’s telling me Observer is 75% off when it’s actually 20%?

Deakin and Studiosity AI

Hi folks. I’m a returning postgrad at Deakin and just noticed this on my DeakinSync page. It’s been a little while since I’ve studied here but is this for real? Is it encouraged? How do you feel about it?

I would’ve thought there’d be a no-AI policy on submissions.

Suggest me a non-fiction book on surveillance, power, policing, and control

I'm very interested in learning more about how populations are controlled by surveillance and power. Are there any modern books that cover this area well? Bonus points if it factors in the growing application of AI technology.

I already know about The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff, but a lot has changed since 2019. I'm also more curious about global and domestic policing and how these elements contribute to it.

It's a very niche topic but any suggestions are welcome, thank you.
