Why do some emerging artists connect emotionally before they become commercially successful?

Olivia C. Dacal came up on my For You page this morning and I’ve been listening to “Tragic Love Story” all day. It got me thinking about how some artists seem to build a genuine connection with listeners long before they have major commercial success.
Is it the songwriting, authenticity, production style, social media presence, or something else that makes people connect with newer artists? What are some lesser known artists you’ve discovered recently that made you stop and listen? https://open.spotify.com/track/6fIkgdMrq2OzoHKcpEYO8z?si=YBqIk1b6QBOANCyj-92gcQ

Beautiful Converse short film celebrating Latino family and community

I really loved this short film. As someone from a Latino family, it captured so many of the little nuances of Latino communities and family relationships. The cinematography is beautiful, and the song featured in it is absolutely gorgeous, it fits the story perfectly and adds so much emotion to the piece. Really well done.

Anyone else listening to Olivia C. Dacal after seeing her in Vogue Australia?

Just discovered Olivia C. Dacal through Vogue Australia’s June 2026 Vanguard feature. Loved her story Melbourne raised, Berklee-trained, writes and performs in both English and Spanish, and recently opened for Sienna Spiro in LA. Curious if anyone here is already following her music?

Solo female doing the El Camino De Santiago

I’m starting the Camino Portugués this weekend and super excited, nervous, emotional… all of it as this is my first ever solo walk. One thing I’ve been doing to prepare is making a playlist for motivation especially when those blisters and random existential crises come up. Ideally I won’t be on any electronics or socials but do want to be prepared.
Anyway, thought I’d share in case any other women here are walking soon or dreaming about doing it one day. And if you have any songs that got you through solo travel, heartbreak, healing, or long walks, please send them my way. I’d love to add them. Safe travels ladies
