Thrift Shops

Hello all,

I’m new to the area and I was hoping to get some advice and insights on good thrift shops, flea markets, retro shops, consignment shops, or antique places around Mentor.

Willing to drive up to an hour so share your favorite places! Thanks in advance!

Lost Cats

Our two cats escaped out of our home. We live in Concord near I90. One is an orange boy and the other is a tuxedo. They are very nice boys and friendly to people. Please message me directly if you see them or someone finds them.

Tamiya Sdkfz 251

Good evening all,

This is my fifth model completed and the first one that I can say that I am proud of. This was my first freehand camo that I've done and I feel like I got lucky with it. This was also my first time painting parts before finishing the assembly. Honestly it's a game changer as I'm looking to get into aircraft next.

I'm feeling more confident with oil paint weathering. I'm getting pretty happy with the look of worn steel tracks (although I'm always open for tips and techniques). This was my second attempt with sponge chipping and I hope that it looks good to a more seasoned eye.

Still plenty of room for improvement. I broke off and had to re-glue the bits on the front more times than I care to count... and man those rubber band tracks are really showing their low quality here from the side.

Let me know what you think!

Astra Militarum Wehrmacht Punisher

Hello all!

I wanted to share my 40K model here. I'm getting back into model building with a new focus on scale models instead of 40K (much cheaper!). This may hurt some war gamers, but I wanted to use and old unpainted model as a mule of sorts to practice freehand airbrushing camo and weathering with oil paints. Please pay no attention to the build quality as I built it when I was 15 many years ago.

I'm pretty happy with the result. I'm really loving making my own oil washes. I wasn't too happy with how the tracks came out, and am open to ideas on how to get that worn steel looks on armoured vehicles. I'm also looking for help on how to better weather decals. Here I just sponge chipped the paint colors below over the decal to "fade" it. Or any other advice!

Please ignore the awful exhaust...

Bandai Razor Crest 1/144

Here is my third model completed. I found this kit for $5! I wanted to practice something smaller and work on clean panel lines with my homemade oil washes. I ended up absolutely hating the stickers it came with, so I created my own masks for the stripes and tried to mix my own orange color and worked on clean finishes on the cockpit canopy. Sealed the whole thing in a satin varnish to tone down the shine. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

Bandai has been a huge step up in quality from the 1970s Tamiya kits I've been building this year... I already got an X-Wing and an AT-AT for the stash.

Feel free to give advice!

P51 Mustang

Anyone know why I saw a WWII mustang flying around Lost Nation? It had DDay invasion stripes. Is something going on this weekend?

Second Model Complete!

Model: 1/35 Tamiya Panzer II F

Subject: Tank 115 served in 1st Company, 1st Platoon among 4 Panzer III's in the 3rd Panzer Division. It's primary role was recon for the more valuable Panzer III's. It was produced in early 1941 and joined the 3rd Panzer Division to replace older Panzer II C's that were used in the French Campaign. This was in preparation for Operation Barbarossa which would begin June of that year.

I had a great time building this one! Tried out post shading for the first time and I'm mostly happy with the result. Just gotta work on my airbrush control and maybe focus on shadows instead of highlights since it's more forgiving. Vallejo's Panzer Dunkelgrau is a little too dark and if I could do it over again, I'd lighten the basecoat. I've got lot's of ideas on where to go from here and with plenty of mistakes mad e along the way. Weathering will be the next challenge. On to the next one!

To Rotbraun or not to Rotbraun

Hello all,

In the middle of building my Hanomag here and I need help deciding if I should add some red brown stripes in between the green ones that I’ve already painted. I really like the look as is and I feel like adding the red brown will make it feel more crowded and busy. However, it will knock down the dunkelgelb a bit, which I also like, thoughts? TIA

My first model back into the hobby

I figured I’d take everyone’s advice and start with a simple Tamiya kit after taking it 12 year break from Warhammer. I tried out a little bit of pre shading, and some panel liner to start. I had an absolute blast with this. I messed up a bit with some silvering and leaving seam lines. I learned a lot while doing it. Really looking forward to my next.

Let me know if you see anything that I can improve on! Especially when it comes to photography…
