Recent Dem text SPAM: anyone else?

It seems that the DNC or some central organization recently released a bunch of lists to a crapload of orgs. In the last 14 days I have gotten annoying text solicitations (all addressing me as 'John,' which is not my name) from the 33 below entities so far. (I dont actually make gifts to politicians: and though I am a Dem, I absolutely would never make a gift to a politician for this reason.) Obviously I respond 'stop,' but they're like weeds. Anyone else have this pop up these last 2 weeks?

The Pat and Gar Hi-Way Bar sign

A good read... even though I actually don't share the perspective of this Substack author on this issue (though I usually do agree with Karen and Vicky): while I do think this is a cute quaint mural, I don't think it has such exalted importance that resources should be put into restoring it.

However, I think Council's preference--that it should be a rotating series of modern-day murals, with a 70 year old Pat and Gar header--is even less appealing: feels fakey-fakey, and the Waneka Lake underscores that. I actually think we have a lot of murals in Lafayette, and we can just let entropy (which has its own beauty) naturally occur to the Pat and Gar mural. Thoughts?

ASG and broadcast? How are people feeling?

On one hand, I'm surprisingly moved by some of these produced set pieces, including the kids coming out to hang out with players in between innings, and Philly folks like Patti Labelle and Boyz II Men getting featured. It's like the 250th birthday we didn't get to have, when that birthday run-up was co-opted by politics and division. This broadcast is giving me warm fuzzies for the vibe of baseball.

On the other hand, I like actually watching people play baseball...

CDs Wings to open by 36 in Broomfield.

Just a few miles up Wadsworth from current location, at the 120th corner, but for those of us loving takeout wings and commuting on the 36 corridor... sweet!

Re Tre: and how to eat a Bird's Nest?

Just visited re tre, the New 'New Saigon'... Lovely, not at all crowded (yet?), expansive menu and I hope they succeed even at price point that is high for S Federal.

I read a writeup that referenced the Bird's Nest as a classic New Saigon dish, so I ordered it..got what appeared to be seafood soup, a dried noodle fort, and black dipping sauce. How would you eat that? (Note: this is the dish after I ate my fill, not how they served it fresh, which will tell you something of portion size.)

Are there any good comedy open mikes in boulder? I noticed there may be one at license #1 but it seems to be $25, so I'll looking for something that is less than that or free.

Airy Foist in Denver

Wow. What a delightful awful amazing musical performance art spam. I have been to hundreds of shows, but haven't seen an opening act like that before.

[context for those not at the show: Geese played in Denver last night (6/25), sponsored by Rolling Stone The opening band were called Airy Foist, which this subreddit has been trying to identify since they were announced.]

US Customs: "It's not normal" to travel solo?

Just subjected to a surprisingly harsh interview by US Homeland Security personnel at Halifax airport (I was on 2-week holiday in Nova Scotia), returning to US. There's nothing unusual about me, my look, my record, or my baggage.

I responded to Homeland Security questions politely but without ornamental detail. Among others I felt were not typical and appropriate, I was asked, "Why are you traveling alone? I responded, "Um.... I often travel alone. It's normal." The officer responded snidely, "Actually, it *isn't."

This seemingly triggered him down a path of inquiry that included several more questions, some I'd already answered and some that seemed intended to goad me ("You wanted to see the ocean... why didn't you go to British Columbia, you know there's ocean there?")

Has anyone else encountered anti-solo-traveler bias by U.S. or other border officials? I understand many norms are being distorted by the U.S. these days, but this struck me as a surprising norm for them to posit.

CONTEXT: I am a 53yo white male who has lived in Denver for ~20 years and been an American resident and citizen my entire life. I have no police record nor a record of any violation with any administrative agency.
