Who’s your favorite villain across the Octopath Traveler series?

Mine is Auguste, the Master of Fame. He was absolutely horrible, but also so entertaining, and I now walk around saying “Maaaarvelous!” about everything.

Cat threw up on the rug? Maaaarvelous!
Passive-aggressive email from a coworker? Maaaarvelous!!

So across OT1, OT2 and OT0, who’s your favorite villain and why? Best written, most intimidating, funniest, best design, best boss fight or just the one you loved to hate?

Heads up: there may be spoilers in the comments.

You have to get an Octopath quote tattooed. What are you choosing?

If you HAD to get one Octopath Traveler quote tattooed on you, what are you choosing?

Mine would probably be Ochette’s “I’m staaaarving!!!”

What’s yours?

Octopath Traveler II was my first JRPG—and now I’m obsessed. What should I play next?

I just beat Octopath Traveler II, which was my first turn-based RPG and also one of the first games I’ve played with much combat at all. I’m coming almost entirely from cozy games, so I genuinely wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it—and now I’m completely obsessed.

I definitely want to play 1 and 0, but I’d like to put a little distance between them so I’m not constantly comparing them to OT2.

What should I play next on Nintendo Switch?

I especially loved the art, exploring new towns and regions, following all the characters’ stories, the turn-based combat and the feeling that I was on one huge adventure. OT2 opened up an entirely new world of games for me, and I’m excited to explore more of the genre.

TL;DR: Octopath Traveler II was my first JRPG and I loved it. What turn-based RPG should I play next on Nintendo Switch?

OT2 tips for someone completely new to turn-based RPGs?

Octopath Traveler II is my first turn-based game and my first JRPG. When I started, I had absolutely no idea what “turn-based” even meant or how I was supposed to play. I only recently figured out what jobs are and that I actually have to equip support skills. 😅 But I’m slowly learning, and now I’m completely obsessed with the game.

I’ve beaten all of the Chapter 2 stories except Ochette’s, since hers recommends a higher level than I’m currently at. Most of my characters are somewhere between the high teens and high twenties.

However, I’m starting to hit a wall when I enter harder areas or fight stronger monsters and bosses. Some bosses kill me incredibly fast, while regular monsters can take so many turns to defeat that I can’t keep up with the damage.

What are some OT2 tips or tricks that could help me? What specific things should I do next to make my party stronger? Are there certain areas I should visit for better equipment, useful side quests to complete or something else I may be missing?

Once I start a game, I really want to finish it. It still haunts me that I could never beat The Lion King game as a kid 😂

I just bought my first PC and I’m coming from Switch, so I’m new to Steam and Xbox controllers.

I recently loved Wylde Flowers, Spirittea and Sun Haven. I’m looking for something cozy, magical and quest/exploration-focused. I’m okay with farming, but I don’t want it to be the whole game.

I’m considering Fields of Mistria or Halcyon Days at Taoyuan, but I’d love suggestions for a good first Steam game. Something not too overwhelming while I get used to PC gaming.
