Genuinely Worthless Skills in Octopath 1
I really think the devs were smoking crack when they added skills like Sheltering Veil, Mole Dance and Ethereal Healing. Why use Sheltering Veil to increase magic defense when you can reflect it? Why use Mole Dance when Hired Help can provide a defense buff for ALL allies for the same amount of BP? Why use Ethereal Healing when you can cure poisoning, or simply heal the whole party fully? Can someone tell me a time you've used these skills against a boss and it actually being useful? I'm simply curious
(The only time I found Veil even remotely useful was when fighting Balogar at lvl 30 but that's about it)
Similar but harder games compared to Octopath?
I really like Octopath, all entries of it, but aside from the Final Secret Bosses, I rarely if ever thought "Oh, this is hard." Only time was Hikaris Final Boss in Octopath 2, and that was largely influenced by me doing his boss as the second final boss, and because of that, me playing without Agnea on my team (She was my protagonist, so she was obviously higher leveled than any other character)
Point is - I really like the game, and am searching for similar games! I also don't mind a good Story, BUUT I am someone that cares more about good gameplay. I don't mind playing a game with a bad story if the gameplay is amazing.

"out of character" sue me.
headcanon post coming soon
My God, the Japanese voices are so much better.
I played the entire game in English, absolutely loved Ophilia, Olberic and Primrose voices. But when I switched to Japanese just for shit and giggles, I was blown away. They sound so much better and serious.

Took this Octopath-coded shot at Little Canada today
Little Canada is an amazing exhibition of miniaturized 1:87 scale cities of Canada. I was practicing photography there, and took this shot without thinking too much. Now I think it looks like it could be a town from an octopath game.
Cultured Cait Octopath Traveler 1
I might sound stupid for saying this, but trying to find out why I didn't get much EXP from this creature leads me to the exact same forum discussion: they just don't give out much EXP. This makes zero sense to me, especially since there's info saying they give out 1250 and double especially since the regular cait gives 1000. If this is the case, I don't understand but I'll have to accept it. In case of glitches, I'll list the exact steps that happened:
- I trigger an encounter in West Stoneguard Pass
- Two enemies plus a cultured cait spawn
- I surprise my foe
- I use a large wind soulstone
- It wipes out the board, dealing 27 damage to the cultured cait
- I get dominance and untouched
- EXP is less than 500
Octopath Traveler 1+2 Soundtrack
Just wanted to show some love for the soundtrack of these games.
It’s honestly insanely well made and kind of criminal how underrated it feels.
I don’t really get why it’s not talked about more, because for me this is easily up there with some of the best game soundtracks I’ve heard.
Everything just fits so perfectly together, every instrument feels like it belongs exactly where it is.
I recently played Octopath 1 for the first time and was already buffled how good the music is… but now I’ve started Octopath 2 and it somehow feels like they went :D yeah, let’s make it even better then.
And I have to say, Partitio’s cowboy-ish theme absolutely slaps :D It’s got that playful, charming vibe that just sticks in your head and makes you walk around like you’re in your own little western film.
Just wanted to drop some appreciation for how ridiculously good the music in these games is. It really deserves way more love :D
edit:
forgot to mention
the sountrack changes when you change day / night. how awesome <3 :D
nice detail!
See own max hp and sp and names during battle
I just started Octopath 0 so no spoilers please. I find it a bit trippy that I cannot see the max hp and sp of my own party members, and also the names in the top right where all the hp and sp bars are shown. How do I remember which bars are for which member? And I want to know the max hp and sp to know whether it is worth it to heal at this point. Is there a way to toggle these on?
Support skill for Reime
What’s the best damage increasing support skill for Reime? I obviously have surpassing power on her, but i’m not sure what else to have on her. Is physical prowess the best or is something else like formidable stance?
Has anyone done a lore-friendly OT0 run?
Lore friendly meaning you don't muck about with the timeline and bring in the OT1 cast.
Mainly, this means you lose out on the best defensive and best offensive Support Skills: Saving Grace (Ophilia) and (the big one) Surpassing Power (Olberic).
A second change would be that anyone with a dedicated building role (Stia, Phenn, Ludo and Laurana) in Wishvale has to stay in Wishvale once their building is built, but I don't think this is as big a deal.
Any chance of an Upgrade pack for Octo-0?
I got Octopath 0 for my birthday yesterday, the Switch 1 version. Playing it now on Switch 2 and its blurry and lagging in battles. Any chance there might be an upgrade pack in the future? I feel bad that its making me consider buying the Switch 2 edition digitally just to play it looking as beautiful as it deserves.
Octopath 2 is one of my favourite games ever, it looks amazing on Switch 1 so I'm confused why Octopath 0 looks blurry on a stronger console. I'm not the smartest when it comes to technical aspects of games though, so apologies for sounding ignorant. Don't mind learning though!
