Has anyone gotten through school and gotten a job just to realize they hey being cold or are afraid of the dark?

I absolutely love being in the water and I enjoy physical jobs (prior military, work in construction) but I fear about the temperature regulation and the visibility will be tough to overcome long term.

I (32m) just got out of the navy almost 2 years ago, looking to get into the career.

I’m a vet and have been working, in an internship with a judge, and got a post-bacc certificate since being out. I really miss traveling for work and doing challenging and physical work. I have always wanted to get into commercial diving, and I have the chance now since I have the GI Bill. I toured DIT and liked it, but am worried I am on the older side for the career and am unsure of if I can make stable money doing this. For a single guy willing to travel is this a consistent career?

Seeking old tires for exercise. 35” in diameter or larger preferred.

I want to try alternative forms of exercise this summer so I’m looking for an old tire to do the sledgehammer workout with. I unfortunately don’t have the space for a giant tractor tire to do the tire flips, but I am seeking a somewhat good sized tire for sledgehammer workouts.

Thanks!

Unexpected benefit of exploring ADHD treatment.

I have struggled with binge eating all of my life. I’m (32m) finally in a place that it isn’t a constant struggle anymore, and it was completely by accident.

I have untreated sleep apnea (diagnosed 2 years ago, finally getting a cpap next month) and I have a very hard time paying attention to anything or getting tasks done. I talked to a doctor about my issues and they prescribed me vyvanse (started at 20mg now stable at 40mg) to improve my focus and productivity.

I also take Wellbutrin for depression, and fortunately there have been no side effects for me. However, I don’t think ADHD is my issue, just my lack of sleep due to my sleep apnea. So while my energy and focus hasn’t improved at all, I realized after 4 months that none of my pants fit anymore. By a big margin.

I thought about what I have been doing differently and I realized that since stabilizing on the vyvanse I haven’t binged. Even when I start late night snacking (usually my bane), I just stop after a little bit. I binge drink less too, it just isn’t as appealing.

These have not been conscious decisions at all, it just happened. So anyone having big struggles with binging (especially late night like me), maybe talk to your doctor about trying vyvanse off label for BED.

Let me know if you have any questions, and good luck and much love to you all!

Is this a good career for working abroad or living as an expatriate?

I’m a US citizen but would love to work abroad and even live abroad if given the opportunity. Is this a job that offers a lot of international travel?

Looking for marine mechanic willing to train.

This is a bit of a long shot, but is there are any marine mechanics willing to train a 32 year old guy with zero mechanical background? Nothing super structured and no real expectations, I would just like to get some exposure to it and learn enough to be useful.

[32m] Help on losing the last 15lbs, and gaining back muscle. From 218lbs down to 178lbs currently, 4 months.

https://imgur.com/a/ecgfrga

Hello, I have lost 40lbs over the course of about 4 months and I am struggling with the last 15 I am trying to lose. I currently have been only focused on walking and dieting, but I would love to build some of my muscle back. The dieting has been intermittent fasting 16/8 and sticking to around 1800cals but not picky about them (was still drinking beer and eating out). So I know I need to tighten that up a bit. According to Apple fitness I walk an average of 4.5 miles a day over the last month.

The pictures are of me about 5 years ago at 172lbs when I was very healthy and active, about a year and a half ago at 221lbs after a hard breakup, and this morning after losing 40lbs over 4 months by diet and walking. I’m looking to lose the last of the weight and start lifting weights again.

Does anyone have any advice on how to lose the last of the weight that seems to cling on, and a reasonable timeline for me to set for myself? Suggestions on a workout split or regimen for a formerly intermediate lifter who hasn’t lifted in years? I used to do a 4 day upper / lower / rest / upper / lower ; is there something better when returning to lifting?

Thanks!

I’m looking to lose the last of the weight and start lifting weights again.

Does anyone have any advice on how to lose the last of the weight that seems to cling on, and a reasonable timeline for me to set for myself? As a formerly intermediate lifter, how should I get back into it? 3 day full body split or 4 day Upper/lower/rest/upper/lower ? Better split recommendations?

Thanks!

32[m4f] #online #anywhere. Missing connection and looking for someone who wants to share their day and care about each other.

American 32m who was dumped a bit ago. Been going on with my life but I really miss having someone to text about my day or random stuff. I have guy friends but none of us live close and don’t talk too often. I miss having someone to talk to, and don’t need anything more than talking but would love for it to flourish. Open to any age (legal adult please) and location.

I need to add that I am child free and have a vasectomy because I am going to keep it that way. Even if I’m monogamous and not an overly sexual person. Don’t want to lead someone down the wrong path if they want kids someday.

Thanks :)

My new landlord says this is just dry rot and not mold, but I am skeptical. Should I pay for a mold test?

United States, Oregon. Home build in 1890s.

I just moved into a new rental property and unfortunately did not do a thorough inspection prior to signing a contract. While cleaning and doing the inspection I saw a part of the floor in the laundry room covered by plywood. I lifted it up and in addition to the floor feeling like it could fall in under weight, it also appeared to have significant water damage. It is directly under the washing machine hookups, so I am assuming it came from that.

My landlord said it is only dry rot and against my wishes came and “sealed it” with some sort of paint and sealer. I know that is not enough to protect from mold.

Based on these pictures, do you believe I should contact mold remediation and testing, or does this truly appear to just be dry rot?

Burning out and wondering how my fellow Portlanders are doing right now.

I’m considering moving to a different state. Not a lot of opportunities here, and the COL is not worth what I get in return. Despite having a degree and being a vet, the mid level opportunities are slim (I don’t work in tech so idk about that) and it seems jobs are being cut more and more. Using my GI Bill to go back to school seems necessary, and I’m trying to find reasons to even bother applying locally.

I work two jobs to keep up with my rent and take the bus and max to and from work. It’s to the point where existing here is just exhausting. I wouldn’t necessarily say I feel unsafe, but having to be yelled at, see open drug use, and deal with the drug addled population every night is draining.

The culture of sanctimonious virtue signaling is also draining, and I feel like I’m constantly walking on eggshells because my peers are always looking for someone to be morally and socially superior to. I am a white presenting Hispanic, and I had a white young adult lecture me on how “Hispanic is not the correct term it’s actually Latinx and it’s super disrespectful and problematic of me to say Hispanic”. I’m 32 and have never met a single person of Hispanic heritage that legitimately likes “Latinx”. In my experience, it’s for white people and being imposed on us. These types of conversations seem to happen all the time, so I generally just try not to engage with people all that much anymore. I’m worried every conversation will become a “erm, acktually” situation.

And everything keeping me here is outside of Portland, like the coast and the mountains.

Im really hoping this round of elections can lead to some steps in the right direction, but im burning out for sure. Is anyone else going through these feelings?

Did your CPAP make a difference for you?

I am finally approaching my fitting for a CPAP in July. I have been dealing with insane fatigue for years now, and I’m to the point where I just feel sick throughout the day because I’m so exhausted. It’s rough because I’m a fit 32m and have a job that keeps me very busy, but I just feel like I’m literally dying.

I’m worried that I’m all excited about a CPAP changing my life and it won’t. Has anyone had these worries before trying it? What was your experience like?

I (32m) gained a lot of weight after a rough breakup and a lot of cream liquor. I’m 5’10”, and got all the way up to 222lbs. Prior to that I weighed 184, and had a decent amount of muscle mass.

I am now down to 184 again, but have nearly no muscle mass. I still look soft and pudgy and want to get down to about 173lbs max, for a healthy BMI. Then I will try to put on muscle again and am comfortable getting back to the low 180s.

So my question is, how do you get out of the plateau? Do I need to do more than walk for exercise? Is there a diet anyone recommends?

I live in an apartment on the fourth floor. There was nothing on top of this section of the floor or heavy around it, so I’m not sure how this happened.

Can anyone recommend how I can fix this and what caused it? I don’t want my entire security deposit to get taken away at the end of my lease just because of this which I believe can’t even be my fault.

Thanks
