Notebook System Follow-Up: What Size?

Thanks all for the responses the other day on moving to a notebook system. I’ve decided to go discbound and am looking forward to it, but wondering what size everyone is using. I normally use a 7” x 9” notebook for meeting notes, and I’ve come to like the size, but wonder if going standard A4 (or half-letter) might be best for going all-in on a notebook lists system. Also, has anyone incorporated a tickler/reference material into the actual notebook, or does this ultimately need to be supplemented? Thanks again!!

Moving to Discbound from 7" x 9" Wirebound

Hey there. I've used 7" x 9" notebooks for years and want to start my journey, but it seems like the most popular discbounds are not available in this size. Does anyone know of a good one with a reliable ecosystem, or has anyone been in the same situation and found the best compromise? Thanks!!

Does anyone use a standard paper notebook for their system?

Long time (two decades) GTD follower. I used to use a loose paper/file cabinet system, then moved to Apple Reminders. Lately I’ve been contemplating switching to a spiral notebook, as it’s my preferred method of note taking, and am wondering if anyone does the same? I dread those GTD-specific notebooks, but wonder how to divide it up in terms of which part for projects lists, etc. I’ve seen removable dividers that I think could help make this possible, but again looking for how others have actually implemented.

Thanks!

ETA: The problem I specifically see myself having is how do I solve for something like "How do you handle something like "follow up with Smith if paperwork hasn't arrived by 8/28?" with a notebook system?

ETA2: I asked ChatGPT if I should use a notebook or Apple Reminders, and it pointed out the "follow up with Smith" hole, which is OBVIOUSLY filled by the Waiting For list... I'm going to get a disc bound notebook. Thanks, everyone!!!

How exactly do I get an appointment in the US?

I’m going through a pretty extreme period of anxiety. I’ve been dealing with it for decades, used to take medication for acute attacks (very rare, one pill every few weeks/months), but am dealing with compounding issues as a result of poor executive function at work and realize I need to ask for help beyond my weekly therapy, otherwise I might lose my job.

I tried calling a few psychiatrists in my insurance provider’s directory, none have called back.

I tried making a “same day/next day” appointment through a place that came up on Google, but they just scheduled me with an LCSW.

Am I going to get anywhere dialing dozens of numbers through insurance, or do I need to go out of pocket and wait weeks to see someone I found through Google? I’ve already hit my deductible for the year, but I’m more concerned about dealing with this sooner rather than later.

Sorry for ignorance and thanks!

Struggling w/My 3 Mo. Old Mini

Hey there! I brought home the cutest salt and pepper mini schnauzer three weeks ago, and it’s been challenging! I knew it would be, but after a few days we got into a good rhythm and accidents in the home came to a screeching halt. The last few days, however, she’s peed in her crates (two) and on the kitchen floor shortly after taking her out. She can still go sometimes five hours overnight without an accident, so I don’t think it’s a medical issue, but I’m wondering what else I can do beyond taking her out every 30 minutes (which is what I’ve resorted to now).

She’s also pretty bitey, which is understandable, and I’m redirecting that as often as I can, but sometimes she’ll bite real hard if I’m trying to take something dangerous away from her in the backyard.

Feels like I’m failing here! Help please!!

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme EDP

Picked up 10ml of this on a hunt for a Mediterranean summer/lemony scent. I've got an amateur nose, but there's definitely a citrus opener here that piqued my interest more than anything else I smelled while shopping (aside from Neroli Portofino).

That eventually dried down to something quite pleasant and a bit woody and covered in sugar, though not too far off from the opening. An overall marine/aquatic vibe for sure, but quite sweet.

The problem for me was a very abrasive middle of the journey that felt loud, synthetic, and cheap. It reminded me a bit of Nautica Voyage and Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, both of which bother me after a while if I'm anywhere other than the beach on a hot day.

Maybe I'm just averse to aquatic fragrances (my go-to bottles are Prada L'Homme, LV Imagination, BDC EDP, TF Ombre Leather, and Neroli Portofino if I were bold enough to splurge on it)?

Anyway, bottom line is I was excited by the opening and disappointed an hour or two into it, and it's not the answer to my lemon hunt. Seems like it has decent longevity, though, as it felt like the wait to get it off me was endless.

Hope this is helpful to someone!

Edit: I’m apparently already going nose-blind to this as I can barely smell it on me, but just received a comment that sillage was good and that I smelled great. Oh well.

How bad is it?

1.5 car garage, semi-detached (garage is not under the house, but connected through the basement). Knew there were issues when I bought a few months ago, have been working on other issues in the house since. Some water gets into the garage when there’s heavy rain (not the whole garage, just the area with the largest crack).

House is 115 years old, guessing the garage is 50-75 years.

What/how much am I looking at to stabilize? And I assume the first call should be to a structural engineer or… ? Also, what are the odds the whole thing caves on me between now and then?

Thanks!

Yesterday Marked One Year

I knew in the morning that I had been sober for a year. I wanted to find time to post about it, but the day got away from me because I've been dealing with so much. But the things that I've been dealing with are mostly things I would not have been able to do a year ago, and so I'm grateful for them.

In December, I bought my first house. I needed a place I could raise my kid, because I'm doing that alone. My ex has not been able to get sober, so I've basically been parenting solo. My parents have been helpful, and I'm moving them into the house. That means they can retire, which otherwise wasn't an option for them. Ironically, yesterday was also my dad's last day of work.

So I've been fixing the place up, moving us in, moving them in, working, enrolling in new schools, making sure my kid is happy and fed. It's been a lot. Most days I'm rarely coming up for air, and it's on the toughest days that it becomes the most obvious: I absolutely could not be doing all of this if I was still getting high. Some of it? Sure. Most of it? Eh... maybe, but not without dropping the ball regularly.

The first few months were hard. It took a while to feel like the best version of myself. And there are some days where I still wonder, am I really 100% back to where I was before I ever started?

But it got easier. I went to a wedding last month where everyone went out to smoke. Six months ago, if I was at that wedding, I might have caved. But I didn't. And it was easy. I have no desire to get high anymore. I enjoy getting a good night's sleep, eating healthy, and whatever else I can do to make my body feel good. I've lost 40 pounds.

I've lost some other things over the last year. Relationships with people who aren't prioritizing their health. Most painfully, my ex. Seeing them struggle with the same things I did, not being able to help... it breaks my heart. And it makes me sad for the person I was for so long. I've had my heart broken by a couple of other people this year, too, and that was difficult to deal with alone and sober. The loneliness is a challenge at first, for sure, but I'm coming to terms with that.

Anyway, it's been one of the most memorable years of my life, and arguably the most productive. I'm not going to sit here and say that all of that happened because I quit, but I can't imagine I'd be in a better place if I didn't.

If you're struggling, ask for help. If you're curious, try it. And if you've already started... keep going.

Well, my SO and I appear to be headed for divorce. I thought I’d feel differently given all the instability. I thought I’d feel relief, especially because it seems like it’s happening in a way that keeps our kid stable and safe. But instead I feel sad. Both because I loved her dearly and we had so many great memories before the first episode, and because our young kid will now truly grow up in a broken home, where the mother will live thousands of miles away.

Maybe it’s hitting me harder because we’re moving this month, out of the home where we made most of those memories and into an older, darker place… alone.

Maybe I just didn’t realize how much I don’t want this, and how much I’m going to miss the many good years we had.

I’m just so surprised at the sadness. I really thought I’d feel differently.
