Baby Jose Buono (mother in the background) looking like it’s sprouting a pretty leaf!
Afternoon!
This is my third begonia and I feel like a proper proud plant parent. They usually die within the week, but I’ve had this lady for over a month now and she’s pushing out new growth like no tomorrow!
She’s still in her nursery pot, and I feel like the soil is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It dries out quite quickly but she doesn’t seem to mind.
A couple of questions:
Would you repot, and if so, what mix would you use?
Would she cope with a prune at this stage?
Any other tips to help keep this miracle going are more than welcome.
Thanks 🌱
When I did my yearly repot in March I turned an old candle into a succulent pot using random cuttings and dropped leaves. Didn’t expect much from it but everything rooted and started growing within a month. I’ll be doing more of these going forward for presents and so on!
Bought this plant when I first moved into my flat nearly two years ago. It came in a £15 sustainability box with two other plants and had about two leaves holding on for dear life. I had no idea what it was at the time but thanks to Reddit, I now know she’s a Philodendron Jose Buono.
She somehow survived neglect and overwatering until I stated learning about proper plant care. Two years on and she’s thriving. She’s getting more light now too, so hopefully even more variegation to come!
My local Range is selling these. Firstly - why would anyone buy these and secondly, why do it? Surely this can’t be good for the plant and it looks tacky af.
