There will be noise.

Hi.

I've tried 3 audio interfaces, and the Focusrite Scarlett solo 3rd gen is the first one that worked, so I kept it.

But, it doesn't really work 100% and Focusrite doesn't seem to care. I've done everything suggested by them and by various audio communities online.

My issue is that I use my PC all the time. The audio interface is always on and always plugged in. I'm always using my PC speakers. My computer is on pretty much 24/7. I don't have a dedicated DAW laptop, for example. Seems like Focusrite expects that. A big part of their troubleshooting advice was to hook it up to another PC, as if I have several lying around.

The Scarlett Solo will introduce buzz every few days. It always gets fixed by unplugging the USB from the back of the Scarlett and then plugging it back in. But I have to do this 3-4 times a week.

I haven't had this ruin a recording (yet); I'm just a hobbyist and technically use the audio interface more for just listening. Again, all of my audio goes through it all the time; whether I'm playing a video game, doing work, watching YT, listening to BGM, whatever.

I think these things are tested hooked up to a laptop or something that's turned off regularly or just not used more than for "working hours" or whatever. I think they should test these things by running them constantly for months.

I also think it's ironic that I've never had an issue like this with a basic PC sound card interface. Ever. Not in 30+ years of owning and using PCs.

Should I unhook the Focusrite Scarlett Solo and only use it when I want to record or play into a DAW? I mean, should I just be using the basic sound card for everything else? I don't want to do that because it means changing all of the audio driver settings every time I want to use a DAW vs everything else I use my PC for. I also only have the one set of decent monitor speakers I use for everything.

I wish I had the money for a seperate machine just for DAW, but I'd need to save up for a laptop for that. Ideally, I'd want a macbook air as a dedicated music machine...But again: I'm not rich, and I'm just getting into music as a hobby.

Questions about the Wingie2

Hi.

Has anyone used the Meng Qi Wingie2 Stereo Resonator?

It looks and sounds like a fun and unique piece of gear...And something that can't really be replicated by a DAW plugin, at least from the YT videos I've watched.

I'm wondering how it actually feels/sounds to use. Does it feel well built and well designed? How is the audio quality? Has anyone had problems with it?

It seems like an interesting device that is kind of a synth and kind of a distortion pedal, as you can play it or run things through it. It's also not like $500 (It's $169), like so many "pedals" I see being used with synths on YouTube these days.

Can I remove the screen from an older laptop and just use an external monitor?

Hi,

My question is the title.

I have a 12 year old Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series (don't know anything more specific than that), and the screen leaked. Everything else still works at this point.

I want to know if I can just remove the screen and hinge completely and just use it hooked up to a monitor via the HDMI out. I used to use it as a desktop, but IIRC, I still needed the built in screen to boot. I hope I can avoid that. I know that I'll have to find some wifi solution too, as the wifi antenna is most likely behind the screen.

I would like to keep it and use it as a streaming box or something. It'd be nice to have YT or whatever just always running on a second machine that doesn't need its own M/KB because they're already a part of the unit.

It's either this, or just recycle the whole thing. The screen itself seems totally unsalvageable; some seals around it weakened and sticky glue is seeping out on the right side. It powers up, but the screen image is all warped and blackened on that whole right edge.

I feel like if I keep this as a project box, the screen has to come completely off. That leaking goo is the worst.

Thanks in advance for any insights or help anyone might offer!

New to Modding

I downloaded mod engine 2, and put a .bin mod in the Mod folder, and it works fine.

But I want to also run the widescreen mod, which is a .dll file and do I put that in the same Mod folder?

I'm confused because one mod is a .dll and another is a .bin.

I don't want to screw everything up, but I'd love it if I could run the .bin mod while also playing and able to see the whole screen on my monitor. Elden Ring lets me set the screen resolution to 1440x3600 or whatever the exact format is, but it puts up black bars.

Really annoying how such a good game makes me jump through hoops just to enjoy what I paid for in a way I want to...
