I’ve had my G580 for a month now, and it’s quickly become my favorite car. It’s the first car I’ve owned from any brand that came with absolutely no squeaks or rattles, it drives far better than something this big and heavy has any right to, and I still love the ridiculous (iconic?) design.

Yes, it’s impractical even by EV standards, and the range isn’t particularly impressive compared with other current EVs. But I took it up into the mountains for the first time yesterday and didn’t care about either of those things. It is just a really enjoyable car to drive.

I still think it lacks some of the personality my 2018 G550 had. I miss a little of the old G’s mechanical character and comically poor handling. But this thing is comfortable, absurd, unbothered by rough roads, and genuinely fun.

It’s dumb. I love it.

I’m introverted and shy at first. My life has become more isolated than I’d like, and I miss having a close friend: someone to text about everyday things, joke around with, and hang out with after work occasionally.

You might be married, have a family, or just have your own full life and still want a close buddy. That’s what I’m hoping for too: a friendship with room for independence that can grow into feeling brothers who can count on each other. I know that takes time, and I do best getting to know someone one-on-one. Kindness, empathy, and having each other’s backs matter to me. I enjoy good banter, some friendly ribbing, and being able to have an honest conversation when something matters.

I work in IT and enjoy tinkering with computers, cars, fitness, sci-fi, and mountain drives. Ideally, you’re local, within a few years of my age, and into fitness. Sharing one or two of those interests would be a bonus. I’m gay and looking for a platonic friendship; your orientation doesn’t matter to me.

I’m usually happiest just hanging out at your place or mine, talking or watching something. Crowded places aren’t really my scene. I don’t drink, but it’s fine if you do. I appreciate regular contact and also understand needing time to yourself.

I miss the 2018, which was my first G-class. The G580 is everything I wanted and perfect for Southern California, but it definitely lacks a little bit of the personality (and the questionable handling) of the 2018 and older models. No regrets.
