Purchasing mussels?

Hi folks! New to the area. Where is a good place to purchase some raw mussels to cook at home? Still learning the good spots for butchers/meats, seafood, etc. Again - looking for raw! I’ve heard good things about Pescadeli in Bethesda but haven’t been - thoughts? Also not opposed to Fresh Market or Whole Foods, but just wanted to know if y’all have opinions. :)

Lots of home office potential but REALLY need advice

Hi! For the record, this space has not been properly designed yet (clearly). Things were rushed into this space, previously it was where we had our treadmill and a guest bed, but we are turning it into my office.

As you can see, this is a mess. My design is typically vintage maximalist, but we can all recognize that this is nowhere near that. In the first photo, I’ve circled a pile of things that will be gone so they can get ignored.

I don’t want to block the window and I do like that the ikea kallax has been almost like an addition to my desk but this clutter is a nuisance. Also, the shelf next to the kallax should stay - it’s a bookshelf with a hidden desk, so I pull it out for my sewing machine. For that bookshelf and kallax, I’m considering painting them. I’ll also replace the baskets in the kallax with opaque ones so you don’t see all of that. This space is also my project/hobby room, so that’s what lives there.

The dresser could stay - if so, I am considering staining it with a walnut stain. We are planning to mount the TV - we use the TV when using the treadmill and working out.

This room feels insanely cluttered and does not fit in with the rest of the house’s style. The books on the window? Hate it. Not even sure where to put my plants in here. Do I put a rug? There are more things to hang on the walls and that will look a bit more evened out. I don’t know what to do with the vintage suitcases to the right… I think it might be time to say goodbye to those. We’re just getting started in here, so any thoughts at all would be fabulous.

(Everyone say hi to Macaroni! He stays, he’s not clutter).

Inheriting a 2010 Ford Ranger - questions

Hey you Ranger fans,

I’ve been gifted this 2010 Ford Ranger. My father is in hospice and approaching the very end quickly. I did not have a car (I live in a big city with an incredible public transit system) and have not had one since 2011. With my father, not doing well, I was able to borrow his truck and keep it with me in case I had to get to his side quickly.

While borrowing it… I completely fell in love with it. Very shocking for me, I am not even a car person let alone a truck person. But boy, do I love a hobby, and my projects often require a truck. My father loved this Ranger beyond words, so when he saw that I also fell in love with it, he insisted on gifting it to me.

I am not vehicle savvy, and I want to make sure that I’m taking care of this truck in the best way possible. I’ve never owned a truck. I want his baby to be taken care of. It has ~128k miles and I want to see this thing to at least 250k 😂. So folks, I’m coming to you to ask what do I need to know that may be specific to the older models? I’ve heard about some of the rusting issues, but are there any other things in particular? Also, feel free to drop general truck advice - there is no such thing as mansplaining basic car maintenance to me right now, as he is mostly non-verbal and we rarely discussed car things (I do have a great friend who is a mechanic though and plans to walk me through maintenance when he returns to my city in two months). I know this is a very vague post, but I know these trucks are beloved, so therefore I assume there are many opinions and thoughts on them!

Very glad to be a new member of this community. Ford fuckin’ Rangers, y’all!

Cheapest car inspection?

Hey y’all, we just inherited a vehicle unexpectedly. While we are thrilled, we been looking to cut some costs for some major new expenses. It’s an old 2010 Ford Ranger, and I need to get it inspected soon and transferred over. Obviously Maryland inspection rates are insane, so is there anywhere that anyone recommends where we won’t get gouged? (Yeah, I know it’s a one time thing - it’s just simply because it’s slightly rough timing)

Never ending double chin!

Hi all,

I've ALWAYS had this face, even with weight gain and weight loss. I've been over 200lbs and under 150lbs with this face (with small fluctuations). I've cut back on both sugar and alcohol entirely to hopefully get rid of any "moon face", but I'm just stumped. And frankly, my father had this face.

I'm looking into CoolSculpting or Kybella, but am willing to do something more drastic. Does anyone have any recommendations? Willing to put in the work in my 40th year. I will be doing a consultation with a plastic surgeon, but want to do some research ahead of time.

Great carryout for special occasion?

I'm traveling in on Monday the 25th for my mother's 70th birthday - she's in Hollywood in St. Mary's. We would have loved to take her out for brunch then, but unfortunately we will have to stay in the home. Since it's her birthday and a milestone one, and due to her having an exceptionally rough year, we wanted to bring in something special for her. Since there's travel involved, we would have loved to have cooked but can't.

I'm looking for somewhere to get carryout that's really wonderful, or catering for 6. We do have one vegan so we'll have to be mindful of that if possible. Seeking recommendations for anything in that area!!

A little background on me - I used to live in DC and I used to bike around quite casually for my anxiety. In 2020, however, I was hit by a drunk driver while on my bike. That accident messed up my body significantly (several breaks in one leg, hip issues, lots of things that ended up stemming from it) and then I was far too paranoid to get back on a bike again. My bike sat in my building’s garage until I moved at the beginning of the year, and I finally sold it.

I live in Montgomery County now, Silver Spring specifically. I have been absolutely dying to be back on a bike again, and this time less of a road bike and more for getting fresh air and good sights. I’m looking at getting a hybrid bike for taking on trails - but I’m REALLY scared. I got on a bike a few times after my accident once I was cleared to do so, but it was never the same. I found myself off-balanced and nervous, and one day I just stopped.

I’m looking for recommendations of areas that may have paved or moderately easy gravel roads, simple biking trails, and possibly not too many hills or too crowded. Any recommendations? And where do you all typically find information on biking trails? We frequently walk through Needwood but I know that isn’t bike friendly.

Additionally, would welcome a bike buddy! I love being outside and I love a good brewery trip, but I’m getting back in a shape still so you would need to be patient with me.
