Yesterday my son told me he no longer wants to eat grilled cheese sandwiches, which has been one of his main safe foods. As a parent, I’m honestly in a bit of a panic right now. The loss of a safe food really does feel like a small death.

He still has a few other safe foods (plain bow tie pasta, a specific brand of chicken nuggets, and store-bought Rice Krispies treats), but losing one always makes me worry about what’s next.

For those of you who have been through this

Do your kids ever come back to old safe foods after burnout?

How do you handle the anxiety when a major safe food drops out?

Do you try to replace it right away or just lean on the remaining safe foods?

He did recently try mac & cheese at a restaurant (which felt like a win), so I’m trying to hold onto that but this still feels really hard.
