Battery Repair story

Okay… I’m officially impressed with GM’s Ultium battery design 😂🔋
So I’ve had my ZDX A-Spec AWD for about two years now, and honestly, it’s been a great car.
Then one day…
🚨 BATTERY ALERT 🚨
And off to the dealership we went. 😂
They kept the car for a few days, did their diagnostics, and eventually told me:
“You need a new battery.”
Me: 😳
Also me: “Okay 👍 sweet…”
Meanwhile, in my head I’m imagining some poor technician dropping a 1,000+ lb battery pack out of the car and GM getting a bill somewhere around the GDP of a small island nation. 😂
About two weeks later, the service guy calls:
“Your ZDX is ready!”
Awesome.
While talking to him, I casually asked:
“So just out of curiosity… what did that battery replacement cost?”
He looks it up…
Pause…
“$980, parts and labor.”
Me: “……$980???”
Him: “Yep. That’s what it says.”
Me: 🤨🤨🤨
At this point I’m thinking either GM has discovered how to manufacture EV batteries using Costco Kirkland pricing, or something isn’t adding up. 😂
So we did a little more digging.
Turns out they didn’t replace the entire battery pack.
Because of GM’s modular battery design, they were able to identify the defective section/block, replace THAT portion, put everything back together, and send me on my way.
And just like that…
🔋 Battery fixed
🚙 Car driving perfectly
⚡ Back to 310+ miles of range
💰 Repair: around $980 parts + labor
That honestly blew my mind.
Especially because I also have a Tesla, and if the main pack ever develops the wrong kind of internal failure, you can potentially be looking at a complete battery replacement costing many thousands of dollars.
Meanwhile the ZDX basically went:
“Oh, one part of the battery is bad? Cool. Replace that part.” 😂
THAT is the kind of EV engineering I can appreciate.
I know the ZDX didn’t exactly become the sales phenomenon Honda/Acura probably dreamed about, but after experiencing this firsthand, I have a whole new appreciation for the GM battery platform underneath it.
I leased this thing thinking:
“Three years and I’m handing the keys back.”
Now I’m looking at it like:
👀
“You know what… you might be staying.” 😎🙌🔋

Camera Recall update

So my coworker got his recall and now his viewing angle is insane! Is this what everyone is getting with the recall? Mine is not on the recall list yet but this is way better than what I have!

Pricing on used 2025 Rebel 1100 DCT

So I saw some 2026 in the show rooms here in Houston and after all the fees we’re looking at 14-15k out the door.

The sales man showed me another one that was 2025 with 522 miles with bags and the front shield and upgraded seat for $8949 so was wondering if it’s worth getting as a new rider? This is my first Bike. So the used one would be about $9500 out the door and they are willing to work on the price.

Thoughts?

People Running Stop signs

In Houston, when people approach a multi-lane stop, if the car next to them is about to drive off the line because it’s their turn, they use their turn to bypass the waiting line. This behavior is incredibly annoying. Now, this guy caught on the Tesla cam almost hit me while I was trying to take my turn. I’m so glad these cameras are recording in every angle.
