Data Engineer role disguised as Software Engineer/Fullstack Developer

Hey everyone! I recently joined a trading firm as a backend-heavy full-stack dev (Java/Spring). I’ve been really enjoying the work, but a recent reorg just moved me to a completely different team.

To give you an idea of the shift:

  • Old Team: Java, Kafka, and Flink. We processed thousands of daily trades from raw to normalized data using a Medallion architecture.
  • New Team: Python, Spark, AWS Lambda, and Glue. Strictly ETL work.

I’m completely new to this second stack but eager to learn. This transition made me wonder: have I essentially been doing Data Engineering this whole time without the title? If so, how can a traditional backend dev quickly ramp up on Data Engineering? I'm currently diving into Python, AWS, and core ETL concepts, but I would love any advice or resources!

Court cancellations on inclement weather

story time, so I joined an OP this august 17, 2026 and nag bayad na ako sa OP since typical na matatag ka lang as joining after being waitlisted pag nag bayad ka na. This club that is hosting the OP nakajoin na ako sa kanila thrice and okay naman sila mag host and well-off naman sila and not necessarily for profit un hosting nila sa unang tingin ko pero lately nag tataas narin pala sila ng OP fees and player numbers in relation to court numbers.

Going back to the topic, sobrang nag baha today because of the habagat and maraming flooded areas na di passable. 1 jeepney away lang naman sakin un court pero unfortunately kasama un route sa nabaha and I hoped na icacancel manlang sana nun court facility un court rentals nila starting nun nag baha like ALL THE OTHER courts near the area but alas tinuloy parin nila and nag sayang lang kami ng pera ng friends ko since wala manlang sanang parefund or atleast kalahati na balik or better yet sana manlang free OP nalang sa club next time diba. di naman namin ginusto bahain or di makapunta.

Am I wrong for expecting this sa organizer ng club and sa owner ng court facility? Isn't' that the decent thing to do?

Ngayon I won't ever play on that court ever again and di narin ako sasali sa mga OPs ng club na yon. I don't think they will get hurt financially by losing 3 prospective players but they definitely lost my respect if that even matters to them.

The Pickleball court is LA Dink Yard in antipolo btw

OP stands for Over Priced these days

These OP prices are getting ridiculous.

Please stop supporting mga nagpapa OP ng sobrang mahal and nag ooverbook pag nakita nilang maraming nag rerequest, sobra un court ratio na nagiging 1:12 or more na tas ang mahal pa.

Been noticing it sa mga malalapit na court samin, this one club request for 250 per OP even tho un mga ibang clubs is 170 lang for the same hours and court number, di ba kayo karmahin nyan? okay lang naman kumita pag nag organize pero sana naman wag un sobrang greedy na na nakaka affect na sa quality ng play sa mga players na sumasali sa inyo, respeto naman sana. mas lamang pa un kwentuhan kesa sa laro eh tas matutuyo nalang pawis mo kakaintay, kaumay na.

Buti pa un mismong mga court pag nag papa OP sobrang fair lang ng presyo kaya shoutout sa inyo Rally Point, Dink Loft, Foundry Court, Agudelo Pickleball Club, and other courts sa Marikina.
Please guys let's boycott these clubs na masyadong gahaman, again I'm not saying na di dapat kayo kumita for maintaining the OPs, but please make it reasonable and don't be too greedy; it should be player-focused and not for the benefit of the Organizers.

P.S Sorna pangalawang post ko na ata to about OP Prices hahah

Satori Residences - Rent to Own / HomeReady

Henlo eberibody, we're planning on renting to own sa Satori Residences and We'd like to hear your thoughts.

Background: Dink couple na may around 150k income combined kaso pareho kameng Breadwinner but were finally thinking of moving out and doing a live-in arrangement.

Is it more wise to go with the direct DMCI rent to own scheme in this scenario knowing na same price lang siya sa renting market or is there any argument na mas better parin to rent directly from unit owners. add ko lang din pala na kasama na assoc dues sa 20k sa RTO scheme. 60% lang rin pala mapupunta sa DP if ever mag proceed kami on buying the unit after leasing contract of 36 months with DMCI

What paddle to upgrade to if I'm using Vsol Pro Flash SH?

Hello everybody, I'm planning to upgrade to another paddle, or at least buy another one to add to my collection. What do you think is the best upgrade from a Vsol Pro Flash? Ang pinaka #1 na gusto ko i-buy rn is a RPM Q2 16mm Elongated. I want to try another shape since etong first paddle ko is hybrid and never pa ako naka-explore or nakagamit ng other shape besides this one. Do you have any other suggestions? I'm not really a banger, more on soft game lang din ako, prioritizing placement over power.

Condo rent prices in the Metro

Been browsing around Rentpad, Carousell, and FB Marketplace for places to rent. Nagtataka lang ako kung bakit ang mga condo rent na hindi naman nasa CBD (BGC/Makati/Ortigas) ay almost the same price as condos in/near CBD areas. For example, I could rent in The Rise Makati around 20k monthly(lowest), tas makakakita ako ng for rent rin around here sa Marcos Highway condos na around 20k or higher. It doesn't make sense to me how rent prices work in areas outside the CBD

Pickleball OP frustration regarding player count

Just played an OP kagabi na may 1:12 na ratio and natutuyo nalang pawis ko before makalaro ule hahah, may alam ba kayong clubs near marikina/antipolo/pasig/cainta na nag lalaro na atleast 1:10 or better yet 1:8 ratio sa court? ang mamahal na nga ng mga OP recently na nakikita ko tas ang dami pa ng player count, nakakatamad nalang din talaga mag laro or sumali sa OPs pag ganto. skl lang din may nakita pa nga ako near samin nakita ko 16 player count lang, nag request to join ako tas tinanong ko if ilan courts sabi ba naman isa lang huhu di ba kayo karmahin nyan?

Pickleball OP price and Entrance fee

Parang dumadami na un nagiging greedy na Pickleball courts ngayon lalo na sa OP fee tas may Entrance fee pa, feel ko sobrang tapang nila mag lagay ng entrance fee since sobrang hype ng pikol bol ngayon. For example 280 pesos for OP fee tas may entrance fee pa na 100, thats 380 pesos just to play for usually 3 hours.
