Frustrated with contractors, they respect my husband but view me as an idiot

I’m a petite woman and I’ve had difficulty with contractors: plumbers, handymen, etc. I own the home my husband and I live in. There’s been so many times I’m requesting quotes and because I’m a woman, they lie about the condition of the issue to the extreme and give me outrageous quotes. I’m always polite and nice to them, but they view me as an idiot.

Example:
Water leak: One highly rated plumber quoted me thousands to fix a water pipe leak in the front of my home. Acted like I needed multiple utilities to come out to mark lines, had to dig out a huge hole, etc. He quoted me $7k.
My husband talks to another plumber and the fix is under $500. Said we wouldn’t need all that because the leak was under this one spot.

Painter/ contractor: A husband wife painting team came out and I asked about painting the balcony. The guy pushed hard on my balcony to make a post move and acted like I needed a full balcony replacement down to the posts, etc. Wanted thousands for the balcony repair.
Contractor: He’s replacing the posts but it doesn’t need a full balcony replacing and it’s $1,500. Of course he talked to my husband.

Water heater leak and stand replacement due to mold:
Plumber: I confirmed he was going to repair AND replace the wet, moldy, base and water heater. It would require some wood work and sheet rock replacement. What he did was have his worker, scrape off the mold and put one piece of wood on top and painted the wet, moldy areas. I complained that was not what I expected. He got aggressive with me and told me what was clearly and undeniable mold, was not mold. He refused to talk to my husband and I had to fire him.
Contractor: My husband spoke to him and he did the full repair of sheet rock, wood, and water heater replacement for $1,500.

My husband didn’t believe that I was being treated so much differently than him, till he saw the way contractors would treat me vs him.

I do not micromanage them and am not unreasonable, so it’s very frustrating that home repairs can only happen if my husband talks to these guys.

These contractors are highly rated online and sometimes it’s the owner I’m talking to.

I’m so disgusted by contractors.

I found my limit on how many cats is too many and that’s 5.

I’m a cat lady deep in my heart and soul, but I have to admit that there’s a limit to what I can reasonably care for.

We have 5 cats and a dog. I was gifted 4 of the cats as kittens by my dad. Granted, I did say I’d love it if kittens just appeared at my door step. But, honestly, giving pets as gifts is never appropriate.

The first set of boy kittens he gave me, it was fine. I had two older cats and unfortunately they both died about a year later. A coworker had found a kitten, which I took in and I was at 3 cats a few months later.

Three would have been ideal. But, one day my dad’s girlfriend saw kittens to adopt and sent me the photo. Being the cat person I am, I said they were adorable. Well, a few days later, he calls me and tells me he has two of those kittens.

At the time, 3 was working just fine and well, I thought two more would be ok. Unfortunately, as the younger brothers got older they wanted to be the “favorites”, so fighting ensued with all of them. I have no favorites because I love them all, but they didn’t feel that way. The kitten I had gotten from my coworker happened to be the most cuddly compared to the others so they were extremely jealous of her.

They picked on her so bad, I tried to give her to my mom in hopes she’d be happier there. She wasn’t. She was pissed and had PTSD and was just angry. My mom was very kind to her, but was afraid to pet her because was spicy.

She ended up biting my mom completely unprovoked and my mom ended up in the hospital. We took her back to our house and gave her own room and let her be indoor/outdoor because the room just wasn’t enough to have a happy life. She’s still spicy despite trying gabapentin and Prozac, but having access outside has helped.

So now we room swap between the 4 boy cats & the dog in one room or the rest of the house all at once and she gets either a room or the rest of the house. The house isn’t big enough to give whomever is in the room a bunch of free space.

It’s exhausting to constantly clean fur, hairballs, litters, blankets, rugs so frequently that it’s an all day, everyday ordeal. I start at one part of the house and after I finish, I have to start over because it’s just so much to clean.

Our situation is okay, but it’s not ideal and I’m struggling with just the upkeep.

They’re my forever furbabies, but tonight I’m just tired of all the damn cleaning and stress of them just not getting along. It’s so much work moving them around just so there’s no fighting and stress peeing.

TL;DR: I have 5 cats that don’t get along and it’s just so much upkeep of the house. I’m exhausted from constantly cleaning and wish they’d not fight each other.

Update: Thank you everyone for your suggestions, support, and sharing your experiences. I was feeling overwhelmed and like a bad pet parent for feeling this way . 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

Do non-LDS members have a difficult time getting business in Utah?

My husband and I want to move to Utah, but he’s Christian and I’m atheist. Neither of us have any desire to covert to LDS.

We have a wedding photography business in Washington that we want to transition over to Utah. We work various faith ceremonies, so capturing LDS weddings doesn’t bother us. We have heard that LDS tend to only hire LDS. Are they open to hiring non-white, non-LDS or should we expect not to be hired by LDS?

Some tips to avoid smelling when it’s hot

Edit: This is regarding videographer professionals who sometimes smell of BO on the job, not just slightly, but really offensively. Use none, some or all of the tips. I’m just hoping to save someone the embarrassment from being the stinkiest and to make you feel a little more comfortable working in the heat. If you have tips, add them here.

My husband and I are wedding videographers and I can’t tell you how many of you are showing up or start to smell like really bad BO.

I get it. It’s hot and stressful. A lot of you guys are men and have to wear long sleeves/suits, so there aren’t really cooler options for you.

I’m hoping this post helps someone because the issue is pretty bad.

Tips:

  1. Use antibacterial soap to shower. It’ll kill the bacteria on your skin that mixes with the sweat and causes stink. Using it daily, helps even more than just wedding days. It’ll help stop the problem from starting.
  2. There are armpit pads for your jackets and shirts. They will absorb moisture and smell.
  3. Wear an undershirt. It’ll keep your long sleeve shirt from looking like a wet rag. Skin colored shirts work better than white undershirts under white long sleeves.
  4. 70% isopropyl alcohol spray in your bag to spray any funk that comes out. It dries quickly and kills bacteria on your clothes. It’s used in the fashion industry on garments that are too delicate to wash so it’s safe for most fabrics. I would do a small test on the part you tuck in prior to using this at a wedding.
  5. Change into your long sleeve/jacket either at a gas station or somewhere just before you arrive.
  6. Bring an extra shirt/jacket for really hot days.
  7. Bring body wipes and deodorant spray/stick for a quick refresh. When you use body wipes, you NEED more deodorant after.
  8. Wash your clothes with ammonia to kill stink in your clothes. 1/4 -1/2 cup of ammonia with your laundry will take out the stink. If it still stinks after washing it, wash again before drying.
  9. Avoid fabric softeners because it traps sweat stink in the fibers.
  10. Take your stuff to be dry cleaned or wash your clothes as soon as possible to prevent more stink from accumulating on your clothes.
  11. Try to avoid eating heavily spiced foods before a hot wedding day. When it’s really hot, the stank comes out of your pores. When it mixes with BO, you smell really bad, even from far away.
  12. Get full body deodorant. Figure out what works for you BEFORE the wedding day. You don’t want to try a new deodorant and have it not work.

Hope this helps!

Fastest way to clean cat spray from walls and doors

One of my neutered cats has decided to spray walls, doors, and furniture.

He’s been to the vet who said it’s behavioral and checked his health and everything.

I got a black light and unfortunately have discovered he’s sprayed multiple places.

The number of places he’s sprayed is a lot and I’m looking for the fastest way to lightly scrub with enzyme cleaner.

Right now, I’m spraying the enzyme cleaner and letting it sit for a few minutes and then washing with a bit of dawn soap.

There’s wall paint is satin and isn’t new so I’m looking for something soft but able to scrub without too much damage to paint. I’m more concerned about getting rid of pee spray.

There’s SO MANY spots that need scrubbing that I need a faster way. What can I use to scrub walls quickly? Any suggestions of what type of mop to use or automatic scrubber? I don’t want to be on my hands and knees scrubbing all our walls.

Any 4’11 or 5’0 shorties try the 90 capris?

I love these capris, but I’m 4’11.

Curious to know if any shorties have tried these and have any feedback/photos of how they look on.

Alo Honest Reviews

I’m posting this in Alo Lovers, since the Alo Yoga sub seems more heavily scrutinized by corporate.

I recently saw a post in the Alo Yoga subreddit where another Redditor said Alo contacted them about removing posts reviewing items they had personally purchased. Whether or not that experience is common, it reminded me how valuable independent reviews from real customers are.

One thing that has always frustrated me is that many brands only allow reviews for a limited time after purchase. At that point, I often haven't worn or washed the item enough to give a meaningful review. All I can honestly say is, "It looked cute when I tried it on."

I'd love to see a "Review" flair added to this subreddit along with a standardized review template. That way we could build a library of detailed, long-term reviews from real people with different body types instead of relying on model photos or one-sentence comments.

A review that simply says "It's cute" or "It didn't fit" isn't very helpful without context. An item can fit completely differently depending on someone's proportions, height, body shape, or what they're looking for in the garment.

The more details people are comfortable sharing, the more useful these reviews become for everyone.

This is not our cat

We have 5 cats, but this is not one of them.

Only our girl cat goes out because the 4 boys pick on really badly.

We have a window open for her and she’s made a friend, which I’m so happy for. She’s a spicy kitty from all the bullying from the other cats, so seeing her not out to kill him is nice.

This guy has been popping in her room to eat, play, and spray her room (everything is covered in plastic).

He’s been hanging out in her room, but leaves if I come in. He waits just under the window until I leave and comes back in. It’s so cute.

We don’t have space to keep him because there’s already drama in the house between the 5. He’s not neutered and is causing one of our other cats to spray in the house.

He’s the reason I haven’t sat on our new couch and chairs for over a year because they’re covered in plastic due to our other cat spraying.

Keep or return?

Aside from the length, is it flattering on me? The front looks good, but I don’t know how I feel about the back of it.

Keep or return?

I bought a lot during the sale, so I’m trying to figure out what to keep. These 4 I’m debating.

The red hoodie - is an XXS. I have the sway hoodie in the same color.

1/4 accolade zip up: XS. It’s soft and looks cute but not sure about exchanging for an XXS. I like it because it’s at least a neutral sweater color compared to all my bright sweaters.

Accolade skirt vs accolade shorts. I don’t want to keep both. I already have a few shorts and I’m keeping the skirt in pink.

Received a different shoe than what I ordered

I ordered the sunset sneakers in sandstone size 7w during the sale while I was in the store.

My order receipt was correct in what I wanted

I was shipped whit Alo runners in a size 5.5w.

I sent them proof via chat on Friday. I have not heard back with an update.

If I go in the store, can they do the exchange? No one answered at the store.

Would a manager at the store offer a 30% on a cancelled order that is now available in their store?

I ordered the blue accolade skirt during the sale. It was canceled but it shows in stock in stores.

I’ve asked the chat online if they’d be willing to provide a discount on the canceled order but they declined.

Is there a chance a store manager would be able to provide the discount in store?
