Moving from London to NYC soon and appreciate it’s an expensive city so keen to get an idea of how others would budget
Hey! I’m moving to NYC from London in a week and have a lot to get done between now and then. Please tell me everything I need to know and what I may be missing?!
I have my L1 visa (still waiting on passport return), my company have booked my flights and an apartment for the first month. I wanted to ask the question to anyone who’s done the same or a similar move as I know there may be things Imm overlooking or generally tips that can make the move smoother.
So I guess this is an open forum for anything and everything related to the days prior to moving and/ or when I arrive, no matter how minuscule it may seem!
E.g. transferring current UK sim, reseting subscriptions (amazon, spotify etc), what to do with my UK credit cards, UK student loan, anything I should buy in advance, setting up a US bank account, setting up social security, first things I should get done when I land

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting so not entirely sure i’m doing this right! I’m moving to NYC in September with the engineering consultancy I currently work for and wanted put out feelers for a London to NYC apartment swap.
I live in the beautiful Notting Hill in a well sized 1-bed apartment just off of one of the most sought after roads in the area! In my new NYC role i’ll be between mid-town and newark (I know) offices, so ideally need to be well placed near a path train station.
Looking for a well lit 1 bed or alcove studio with nice views and ideally an in-unit washer/dryer (hope that’s not too much to ask for haha). Happy to send photos of my apt if interested!
