Why does my new home have different ‘year built’ dates

Hi everyone. We just purchased a new home and I’m trying to figure out the history. The deed shows a plat was recorded in 1976, neighbor says the house was built in 1978, public records show an effective year built of 1985, and built year of 1998. All MLS listings show 1998 as the year built. Online public records show no building permits for the property.

We are just trying to understand what would have led to all of these dates being so different. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Layout ideas for living room

What are some layout ideas for this room? The entry way at the top leads into the eating area. Right now the room is set up to mount the tv on the wall just to the right of that entry way. This would be our main gathering place to watch tv as a family. We have one two year old son. Would love some ideas with and without the way the tv is currently set up.

New house is 20 years older than what was advertised on the MLS listing

Location: Illinois, US

My husband and I just closed on a new house yesterday that advertised a built date of 1998. He got to chatting with a neighbor this morning and come to find out it was actually built in 1978, a whopping 20 year difference. We immediately contacted our realtor and she’s reaching out to whoever she needs to on her end. I looked at our appraisal report and in the middle of the packet there’s a handwritten note by the appraiser stating the home is 49 years old. Obviously this discrepancy wasn’t noticed by anyone. I’m wondering if we have any recourse even though we’ve already closed on the property? To say we aren’t happy is an understatement. This isn’t buyers remorse, we were completely lied to by the sellers and listing agent.

I love getting downvoted for asking for advice lol

Edit to add that on our non-negotiable list when looking for a home one was a house 1990 or newer. We would not have purchased this home if we had known the correct built date.

Tips to brighten living room and kitchen?

Help! We just bought this home and it is severely lacking natural light. The kitchen has 3 windows, 2 facing southwest, one facing southeast. The front room faces northeast. The main window is under a covered porch and the other is on the southeast wall. There’s a row of TALL evergreens directly across from us on the southeast side

My plans so far are just to repaint the walls a bright beige because the current colors are horrendous. i think this will help a ton but im wondering what other things I could do to help brighten up this part of the house?

These pictures were taken around 11:40am on a bright, cloudless day 🥴

Hi all! We are in the process of buying a home with an above ground pool. My son is 2.5 and can’t swim (we are starting swimming lessons in June). I’m wondering what some fun activities or toys we can get for him? We are NOT getting him a life vest or puddle jumper.
