Purili, self built search engine with its own index

Given the sad demise of Presearch (which in all honesty happened quite sudden imo), I thought this may be of interest to the community (also as I would love to get additional feedback). The past few months I have worked on puri.li which is a search engine which is solely using its own self-crawled index (~400mln pages currently). It also has some basic news/videos indexes, and retrieves images via wikimedia / maps via OSM (everything else is self hosted). Hope to hear what you all think and if you have any feedback that'd be highly appreciated 🙏🏻

Free web search api from puri.li

Hi all, I have been working on puri.li a search engine with its own index, and noticed that many people here use web search APIs in their agents. I have opened up the web search API for free use and was wondering whether this would be of use to anyone (and if you have any suggestions to make it better definitely let me know).

The current index is at around 200mln pages and the results are getting relatively OK for most shorter queries (longtail will improve at around 500mln). So don't expect results as good as Google/Bing yet, but should provide some usable results in the tol 10 for most queries.

I would be really interested to hear how I can further improve this API for agents specifically. As I understand some specialized APIs also pass the scraped HTML together with the results for additional context? Would love to hear more.

Puri.li - I built my own search engine (with its own index)

Hi all, I am currently working on building something I have tried since a kid, a search engine with its own index. Most 'privacy focused' simply pass the query to google or bing (except brave search), or add a lot of ai in between the results. The index is still really small (so if any sites are missing please do add them via the form), but I am mostly wondering the following:

What would be needed for you to switch from your main search to one that's (possibly) more privacy friendly? And if you have any general suggestions/feedback/errors please let me know. It is available at https://puri.li

Puri.li the private search engine with its own index

Hi all. I built https://puri.li, a fully self-hosted search engine with its own index / crawler. It currently has more than 20 million pages indexed and I added quite some tools (graph calculator, conversions, sunset/weather via openmeteo, etc). Please let me know what you think. BTW Any missing pages can be added via the add site form (takes ~30 minutes to be indexed).

Puri.li Search engine with own index

[Dev] Hi all, I hope it is OK to post this but I am building my own search engine with my own index on puri.li. The reason for doing so is that I noted that the quality of Google results has gone down a lot, and there is literally no functional search engine from the EU with its own index. Let me know what you think :).
