I’m reading the bilingual anthology of Arab renaissance, a collection of literature edited by Tarek Al-Ariss. It is a beautiful sample of essays, plays, and stories by different authors from the 1800’s, when Arabic arts was beginning to enter the modern era. I chose this book because it’s not too hard but not too easy. And it has each work written side by side in both original Arabic text and English translation.

I would love to find some bilingual study partners to read out loud together on zoom, discord, or WhatsApp. My Arabic vocabulary is much weaker than my English, and I especially need help pronouncing Arabic words when the vowels are not written. If you are a fluent Arabic speaker and want to improve your English vocabulary and pronunciation, we can help each other out with this trade.

I work 4pm to midnight and would love to have group meetups after midnight or 1 am. Is anybody up during these hours and up for getting together? Maybe bicycling or walks near olde towne? Or group meals at like Denny’s or wherever is open late night? I know the daywalkers dominate society with their darned 9-5 supremacy but hopefully there are some other 2nd shift or graveyard workers or insomniacs who feel the same way I do. Any suggestions on where to meet such people in this big little town? Thanks in advance!
