What to do with money pit car?

I have an absolute piece of shit vehicle I’ve been burdened with for the past 4 years. I was going through an awful time in my life when my reliable (but very old) car died, and made a terrible rash decision buying this used lemon. I have had to put thousands into it, it needs more work now, and I’m just done.

This is the first time I’ve ever had a loan on a vehicle; I’m in my 40s and have always bought used, outright. I currently still owe about $2900. I don’t have the funds to pay it off. I’m single and the budget is TIGHT. I have zero clue how this works.

Basically…can I trade in this POS while still owing the bank? How does that work? Online the high/low trade value at the dealership is $2400/$1590. So obviously less than I owe. I’m a woman and super self conscious of going to a dealership and looking like an idiot.

I would rather take another loan on something that isn’t a lemon. How do I offload this thing??

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Devil Track Lake?

Does anyone have experience with the Devil Track Lake Campground? I’m looking to go midweek in September, and it’s FCFS. Its proximity to Grand Marais makes me worried that my lack of reservation will come back to bite me.

I will be coming out of the boundary waters same day so I really don’t want to worry too much about a campsite…is it typically full? Should I reserve somewhere else? TIA!

Sioux Hustler?

I realize that the BDub is closed so maybe this is a dumb question, but I’m trying to make decisions for my trip a couple months from now…does anyone know if and how badly the Sioux Hustler trail was affected by the fire? I’ve been trying to hike this trail for years, and something always happens. Trying to decide if I should scrap it and make other plans. TIA

Radio recommendation?

I’m a mostly solo hiker, and while I have been enjoying the BDub for almost 20 years now, sometimes I like a little music when I’m sitting at the campsite or if it’s a little too quiet in the tent at night (before you attack—I only turn it up as loud as I can hear it sitting right next to me. No dance parties over here)

While there are definitely times/places I know I won’t get any reception (and that’s ok), there are so many times my cheap Panasonic radio won’t pick up anything unless I’m holding it. Even in civilization. I was at Wild River SP a few weeks ago and this was an issue.

Anyway, I don’t mind paying some money but I don’t want to buy something expensive that doesn’t work. I also don’t want something enormous because I’m a backpacker not a paddler. Any recommendations?

A less dramatic choice than usual

Last night, my car was illegally towed. Long story short, my apartment complex got a new towing company, they claim I didn’t have the new tag and I do and can prove it. They came with a fleet of tow trucks last night and went buck wild, towing a shitload of cars and several of my neighbors and I were left bewildered. I will speak to my LL on Monday but meanwhile, I have no other choice than to pay the $360 i don’t really have to get my car out of impound.

ANYWAY

I had planned on going on a camping trip 4 hours away, leaving today. I am majorly stressed about a lot of things lately and was really looking forward to this recharge in the woods. But now I dunno if I should cancel the trip. Is this a bad omen? I do tend to get black cloud-y about things like this, but I don’t want this to be the first in the series of unfortunate events.

Do I get over it and just go? Or do I play it safe and stay home?

Jay Cooke

Has anyone hiked out to this overlook? I’m looking to do a long hike, but I’ll be sad if it’s not worth it lol. Trying to decide between this, and an SHT section hike.

I’ve been tasked with making a red velvet cake for my nieces graduation. I’m not a big fan of red velvet, so I’ve never personally made one…I think I’ve nailed down a recipe, but any advice would be appreciated!

But also

She isn’t a fan of a lot of rich/sweet frosting. I know red velvet is usually frosted with cream cheese frosting, would it be weird if I used vanilla buttercream? Or should I just have a thinner coat of cream cheese frosting? Help! Super over thinking this. Thanks!

I’m trying to plan my trip to the Sioux Hustler trail, and trying to find what the distances between campsites are. Yes, I have a map, and yes I’ve measured and use the scale, but I come up 1.5 miles short on the total distance.

Anyway

I’ve googled to no avail. Does anyone know where I can find this info, either on a website or in a book? Thanks!

I have an old REI kingdome that’s too big for just me and the dog. However, I really want a “glamping” tent that I can stand up in, and that will fit a cot.

I was looking at a Wawona vs an REI Wayward (both the 4 person size) and with both, I’m really concerned that the rain flies don’t cover the entire tent. I’m not the kind of person to pack up and go home if there’s a thunderstorm.

Any recommendations for a big but not too big tent that will hold up? I’m also not a Coleman fan. TIA!
