Beginner road bike (UK)

Hi,

Looking for advice on a beginner road bike.

UK based, looking to get a bike through cycle2work (Halfords/tredz). There are some independent stores applicable too, but these don’t have as many options.

I’ll be cycling mainly around the Surrey hills area (obviously not too many hills at first!). I’ve only ever ridden hybrids and mountain bikes before but looking for something quicker on the road. No interest in being competitive in the near future, I just need some more interesting cardio and enjoy biking around.

I don’t want to spend a crazy amount on the bike, and also want to get a bit of gear to go with on top. My budget for a bike is realistically around £800. Im happy to stretch this a bit if there’s something truly worth it.

At the moment I’ve been eyeing up a Giant Contend 2, as I’ve read that these are a pretty solid bike for the money? I’m thinking either that or just going for a Boardman SLR 8.6 and using the extra money towards accessories etc. I think my main concern is with the brakes, am I going to regret the rim brakes? At this price point it doesn’t sound like mechanical discs are going to offer much more, but I may be wrong.

TLDR: Complete bike noob, looking to spend max £800 on a new road bike through cycle2work, seeking advice.

Thanks!

Dealing with anhedonia

For context, I have ADHD + ASD, generally poor mental health and I’ve been addicted to most substances at some point in time. I’m 25 and weed was the last thing I had to quit, I’m currently at 2 months sober.

After getting the first week out the way, following weeks were pretty easy and I felt really good about it. Fast forward to a month/2 months in I feel so flat.
I exercise I few times a week, have a full time job, try to make music see friends etc but nothing scratches the itch.

I feel both so restless and exhausted all the time, and nothing I do makes me feel anything. I’m waiting to try ADHD medication but waiting lists in the UK are rather long and I can’t afford to titrate privately. Whilst I’m sure part of this is to do with getting sober, the reason I hadn’t been sober for years was because I always felt like this anyway.

Is this just my dopamine flatlining? I want to stay sober but everything feels awful and I get no reward for working out etc. it’s driving me insane, does anyone know how to treat this chronic understimulation? I’m miserable to be around and it’s really affecting all my relationships (including with my partner, who I live with).

Interested to hear from others who’ve been through similar things.

Selling crafty+ device

Hi, selling a used crafty+ USB-C, only had 50 hours of usage as only had it for 2 months.

Really enjoyed the device but decided cannabis isn’t for me anymore. In good nick and I’ll give it another clean for good measure before I send it.

Ideal if you’re looking for an upgrade from a cheaper device or just starting out. Also comes with a hard case for the device.

Listed on EBay here, and open to offers.

Hope this allowed, only rules close to this were talking about business advertisement, thanks!
