Divorce in your 40s

I'm thinking of leaving a really bad, abusive marriage at 45 with a 5 year old son. Can any xennial give me some positive advice or just a feel-good story on how it is to start over midlife? I'm terrified.

So tired of male tempers and having to suit my responses around them!

I have a male coworker who I'm constantly having to temper myself around his temper tantrums. He's not my supervisor, but we work for the same division and he's slightly higher than me within that division. That said, he often is wrong in what he tells the people and companies that we serve. So I get to go to my supervisor and request assistance in correcting him to avoid his tantrums. It's so frustrating. I already have a man child at home that I have to put emotional effort into keeping the status quo with– I shouldn't have to do it at work as well.

All I can do is hope I am raising my son with enough emotional intelligence to not be like these man-babies that I have to deal with on a constant basis.

Peri and young children (moms only 40+ please for my sanity)

How are you handling perimenopause with a young child? I had my only son two weeks after I turned 40. He's about to turn 6 and I'm about to turn to satan. I am so f¥cking tired. I really try to not be cranky with him (I reserve it mostly for his dad/ my husband- who deserves it btw), but I find myself being short, catching feelings of inadequacy, wanting to just shotgun a box of wine and sleep for three days.

I know I'm hitting a point in my life where hormones are askew. I get a period every other month that is either the shining elevator scene or a couple of drops. How can I handle this? How are you handling this?

... the afghan whigs?

Was anyone else really into them? I'm listening to Gentlemen (album) right now and I still think it's one of the finest full records to listen to, start to finish. I'm curious if anyone here is also a fan or if this is a relic from my Gen x sibling.

Summer birthday for an only

Hi! My only has a late July birthday, and really wants to invite his whole kindergarten class to a big giant birthday party I have yet to plan.

Why haven't I started planning it? It's a myriad of reasons. 1) I do not have any phone numbers for his classmates. A few neighborhood moms or kids from his pre-k, but other than that I have little to no interaction with these kids parents. How do I even get invites out?!? 2) I am a summer birthday and I remember birthdays where we invited my whole class and maybe 5 kids showed up. I had probably 3 friend birthday parties growing up. I'm just so worried no one would come for my guy. 3) he's well liked in class but is a solo player. His teacher calls him the mayor of his class- he will play with anyone and they are happy to have him, but he floats around. I'm not sure he has tight bonds with most of the kids in his class, but I know he likes everyone.

Has anyone had experience planning a successful summer birthday party? I have such anxiety (my own stuff, I'm sure) about it and would appreciate any words of wisdom.
