New Go vs Old Go film

Picked up the Go 3 and finally shot one of the newer batches of Go film. Did three packs in one night, 1 new and 2 old. Haven’t done a side by side, but the new flash is worth the price alone. With the more narrow aperture, I think the shots are noticeably sharper, even on older film.

Like the old formula, the new formula on the Go 3 resolves very well. Gave out all my shots that night, so I don’t have any proper scans. But there’s always a surprising amount of detail in Go shots.

I think Polaroid is a hell of a lot closer to having a true Instax Mini competitor now.

Solutions for landscape and vertical simultaneously?

So I’m a one person operation, and after a few attempts at shooting to once to cut both standard and vertical video from the same footage, I think I’d rather have a dedicated vertical action/360 camera to shoot alongside along my FF.

My subjects are mostly untrained dogs, so if I miss the shot there’s no back to one. There’s also a lot of zooming in and out right now, so it’d be nice to have a subject tracking B cam like an Osmo Pocket or 360 camera so I can keep my main camera relatively static.

Which is why going opengate isn’t necessarily the most attractive option to me.

I don’t need BTS POV footage, so I’m not looking to get my hands and camera in the shot, so I think that rules out hat/shoulder/chest mounted options.

Rigging an action cam to the side with a magic arm seems to be the most common solution, but I can only seem to find videos that are either shilling them or shitting on them. I don’t think I’ve ever found a magic arm review that says “it’s alright, does the job”.

As someone who’s never used a magic arm, what works and what’s influencer-peddled future eWaste?

I’m also open to other suggestions as well. I have a half cage with coldshoes and 1/4” mounting points on the left side of my R6 mk ii. I wouldn’t mind going high, rather than off of the side. I’m picturing a coldshoe mount that’s about 6 inches high. I feel like framing could be easier. But I also haven’t come up with any ideas other than daisy chaining a dozen 1/4” screw extensions.

Fairly new at videography, but I know my way around cameras and production. Open to any ideas!

139Q & Tessar 45mm f2.8 - Go Anywhere

Quite possibly my favorite compact SLR setup. Perfect for travel or a night out.

My 139Q is being repaired for the third time now (1 DIY hot shoe rebuild, 1 professional lightmeter recalibration, and now it’s with the technician for a battery drain issue and Auto no longer works, despite proper metering. Estimated lead time, 1 month).

So I’ve decided to finally get a second Contax SLR body to tide me over until then. Came across this RX in beautiful condition. And it pairs handsomely with the 85mm f1.8 Planar. Because of the balance, it feels lighter than the nearly 1.5kg of kit it is.

It does look quite silly with the champagne 45mm f2.8 Tessar, what with the lens being less than 10% of the body weight. But with Av and Program modes working as well as they do, it’s a satisfactory stand-in for the 139Q + 45mm as a casual snapper.

The shutter sound is gorgeous. The grip feels better than most, despite it being shallow and squared off. And it pairs well with the TLA 30, which made the 139Q feel terribly top-heavy.

It’s nice to finally have a second body, given the… finicky nature of Contax cameras. I think this will stave off any lust for the S2 and Aria anniversary edition for a while.
