Potential Galaxy issue?

Okay, I don't know if this will be a problem for hiring purposes, but for student teaching I was input into my placement school's Galaxy system and assigned a DOE email. Did I automatically fall off that school's Galaxy portal when my student teaching ended, or am I still in that school's Galaxy and will it somehow cause issues if another school tries to hire me? Or does a student teacher being put into a school's Galaxy even affect future hiring at all?

Question about school budgets

Hi all! If a school received the same amount of small class size funds this year as last year, do those funds only sustain the teachers hired last year, or would that mean the school can hire the same number of teachers this year as last year? Couldn't find an answer to this.

For reference, the school I'm wondering about received the same amount in C4E class size reduction funds but got an increase in class size reduction planning funds (in the upcoming year's galaxy allocations)

D27 schools?

Anyone know of any D27 elementary/K-8 schools hiring for 2026-27? Certified in gen ed 1-6 and very close to being additionally certified in TESOL (exam passed, only one summer course left to take). I already reached out to a couple of schools on the vacancy spreadsheet and on NTF, but was wondering if anyone had any other leads. I couldn't attend the D27 hiring fair in May because I had a demo/interview that same day

Good sign or overthinking?

Hello! I did a demo lesson for one of my top-choice schools in June, which went well, and they told me to reach out in a couple of weeks when budgets were finalized. I reached out yesterday, and they got back to me the same day, saying that as of now, their positions haven't been funded and that they would get back to me once the budget office catches up with the funding.

I know that budgets were apparently finalized on 7/1, but is there any possibility that I might get this position, or does this mean the school didn't actually get their funding? Does anyone have experience with budgets being delayed?

Yes, I'm still reaching out to other schools.

Good sign or overthinking?

Hi all! I did a demo lesson for a school I really like in June, which went well, and they told me to follow up in a couple of weeks once budgets were out. I followed up this morning, and they got back a few hours later and told me that their positions hadn't been funded yet, and they're waiting for the budget office to catch up.

Is this a good sign that I might get the position, or does it really mean nothing at all?

(Yes, I'm still actively applying elsewhere, so not putting all my eggs into this basket, although I really would like to.)

When to follow up with admin?

Hi all! I did a demo lesson/interview on 6/22. The admin and teacher whose class I did the demo in seemed to like how my lesson went, and admin told me to follow up in a couple of weeks once they knew for sure if the hiring positions they anticipated were actually available. I know many schools had their budget meetings recently. Do you think I should follow up this week, or wait until next week after the July 4th weekend?

Opinions on Dear Birds?

For everyone who has one (or more than one) of the Dear Birds, what do you think of it in terms of quality? I have my eye on a couple of them and I want to hear what everyone thinks! I've mostly been seeing posts about the Hair Salon labubus, buuuut I'd also like to hear from any Dear Birds lovers (or haters!)

What to expect from meeting with AP?

Hi all!

I did a demo/interview for a school back in May, but because the AP wasn't there that day, the principal said they would call me back in to meet the AP. Now the meeting with the AP is scheduled for this Thursday. What do you think I should expect from this meeting, considering I already interviewed and did a demo?

Demo lesson nerves

Hi all! I have a demo lesson/interview tomorrow at one of my top-choice schools. This isn't my first demo/interview, but I guess I feel more pressure because I admire this school a lot (I did some of my observation hours there when I was doing my master's). I'm doing a 45-min ELA demo for 4th grade- an HMH lesson that's already prepped and ready to go- objective, I do, we do, you do. There's a separate differentiated assignment for a few Entering-level ELLs.

Any last-minute tips or advice to help with my nerves would be appreciated haha

HMH Demo Help?

Hi all! I have a demo lesson next week at one of my top-choice schools, which I'm very excited about! I'm going to be doing a 45-min demo for 4th grade for HMH Module 9 Lesson 13 (Literary Elements). I'm familiar with making lessons for HMH, so that won't be a problem. There are 3 Entering-level ELLs in the class, and I would like some tips on how I could differentiate the lesson for them. Obviously, for privacy purposes, I don't know which students these are, and I don't know about their specific language strengths and weaknesses.

Any advice on how I can make this lesson accessible for them, considering I do not know them? Generally, I know I should modify my own language and use visuals and gestures. What is expected of this in a demo?

Follow-up emails?

Hi all! I attended a few hiring fairs this spring, and I followed up with every school I spoke to/gave my resume to within a few days after. Since it's getting closer to when schools know their budgets for hiring, should I follow up with these schools, or do you think the initial emails were enough? I don't want to bother schools if they're actively looking through applications.

Anyone hear back from the D26 hiring fair?

Hi, did anyone who attended the District 26 hiring fair on 5/14 hear back from any of the schools yet? I know it's still early, but I'm just curious if those schools are starting to do callbacks or not

Interview question help?

Hi! I've had a couple interviews and feel I keep answering questions about disruptive/misbehaving students awkwardly. I did student teaching and work at an after-school program, so I have experience with students who aren't doing what they're supposed to do and enforcing consequences, but I don't have much experience with handling disruptive students who disrupt to the point of impeding learning/are a possible danger to other students. How should I answer this interview question?

Victoria's Secret perfumes?

What do you think of VS perfumes? I've been on the never-ending hunt for my signature scent, and most of what I've tried at Sephora doesn't quite do it for me... I actually like the scented lotions and body mists from VS/Pink, so I'm considering testing out some of their perfumes! The notes on a lot of them intrigue me. I also like that they're on the more affordable end, too.

Does anyone like VS perfume? If so, which ones are your favorites/least favorites?

Demo lesson norms?

I'm demo-ing for an elementary school in three days. It's a 40-min lesson, and I was just informed that I have to bring in 3 references (understandable) and some kind of write-up written by someone giving feedback on my pedagogy (ok, I can find something from student teaching).

By references, do you think this school means literal recommendation letters (which isn't enough time for my references to write) or just a list of their contact info? I wasn't asked to bring any of this for the other demo lessons I had at schools, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Classroom teachers with ELL students willing to answer a questionnaire?

Hello! I'm in the process of looking for a teaching job for this school year, and I'm also working on my additional certification in TESOL. For one of my courses, I have to interview one ENL teacher and one classroom teacher/content-area teacher who has ELLs in their class (the interview involves only completing a Google Form questionnaire, 20 questions). The information given will be summarized in a brief Prezi presentation that will only be viewed in a classroom context. It involves topics such as strategies to teach ELLs, opinions on state policies regarding ELLs, etc.

I already have an ENL teacher to do the interview, but if any other ENL teachers are willing to fill out the questionnaire, the more the merrier! Are there any classroom/content-area teachers with ELL students who are willing to fill out my questionnaire? Any grade and SPED teachers are perfectly fine, as long as you teach ELL students!

If you are interested, please comment so I can DM you the Google Form questionnaire! Thank you for reading.

First demo/interview coming up!

Hi everyone! I'm excited to say that I have my first demo lesson/interview coming up in a couple of weeks at a school I'm interested in! It's a 20-min lesson for 5th grade ELA. I have some lessons from student teaching I'm possibly planning on using, but does anyone have any additional tips to make a good impression?
