Pay vs benefits

I've got eight years experience at Wegmans... total. I worked there from 1998 when I was eighteen to 2004, then in 2024 I was rehired. Now, I just got a full time position in the meat department, where I've been the last year and a half.

There's no doubt that Wegmans has some fantastic benefits, even for part timers. The store where I work is also generous. After my father passed, they offered to host and supply food for the repast after the funeral. I declined, as I wanted to have it in an actual restaurant... but still generous. I've seen people who couldn't afford all of their groceries, and the store manager let them have what they couldn't pay for.

The only issue I see is the pay. In a recent company survey that was anonymous, the only real criticism I had was the low wage. My question is, do you all think the positive of the benefits outweighs the negative of the low pay? In 2024, they started me at 15.50 per hour, two years later it had gotten up to 18.00 per hour, and with becoming full time, they gave me a 50 cent raise. So, now I make 18.50 cents per hour with time and a half on Sundays and holidays.

How do you guys think this compares to other companies you've worked for? What's your opinion of Wegmans and how they reward their employees?

Cat passed away after visit to vet

I brought my cat Monkey Joe to the vet yesterday for the first time since I adopted him with his sister in January of 2025. About 5 minutes into the visit he began breathing with his mouth open and was visibly distressed. The vet said that when I got him home, to keep an eye on him, but that he should begin to relax after 30 minutes to an hour and the panting should stop. I followed those instructions, but after 30 minutes he suddenly began retching and lurching about, bringing up a thin liquid. It looked like he was choking on something and he collapsed. I tried to help him with a finger sweep but he was gone in less than two minutes. I just called the vet who examined him but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

He was just there for a nail trim and an introductory examination... how could this have happened? Seeing my sweet little boy die like that has left me heartbroken. I just don't understand what happened. He seemed perfectly healthy yesterday morning and by 6pm the same day he was gone. I knew he wasn't going to like going to the vet since his temperament was the jumpy kind, but I didn't think it would stress him out to the point of killing him. Oh, if only I hadn't taken him, he'd still be with me.

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened to him? How could stress from a vet visit be enough to kill him? The internet and the vet said that panting was a normal stress response, but that it would stop when he calmed down. I just don't understand it. I miss him so much.

2013 Ford fusion

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with 60,000 miles on it. In the last two years, I've needed to have several repairs done to it that equals out to about 5,000 dollars... give or take. In the last week, the ABS and hill assist lights came on indicating sone issue I have a mechanic who will hopefully be able to diagnose the issue on Monday.

I don't really want to trade it in for something else, since it only has 60k miles, but it seems like one thing after another keeps going wrong with it. My uncle says to get rid of it before it nickels and dimes me to death, but I'm hesitant... partly because it was my late father's car and partly because I'm just unsure of what to do.

What would you all do? Is it worth keeping, or is it better to sell it and try to find something else? How much do you think it might be worth? Should I sell it privately, or trade it in? Another consideration is that I have limited funds and although my credit is OK, I only make 18 dollars an hour at my job 40 hours a week. So, I might not get approved for financing because of my low income.

Any guidance or advice would be appreciated.
