Thoughts on Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons"?

I just re-read Dan Brown's Angels & Demons over these last two weeks, and then re-watched Ron Howard's film adaptation - Angels & Demons. I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time, but I experienced it differently. I hadn't read any of the Robert Langdon Books when I watched the movie the first time, and so I didn't know how it was different from the book. Now that I've read the book twice since I've watched the first movie, I take minor, negligible issue with of the ways the book was adapted into film

  1. Father - Leonardo Vetra » Research Partner - Silvano
    • The relationship between the Vetra Father and Adopted Daughter was great to read about. Leonardo Vetra was an especially interesting character in the book, being an ardent believer in Science and God. Silvano was more or less a plot device it didn't hold much weight.
  2. Relationship Between Camerlango Ventresca and Late Pope
    • When I read the book the first time, I loved the reveal about their relationship. Even with the numerous breadcrumbs that led there, the details of it made the ending of the book as distinct as it was.
  3. The Final Illuminati Brand
    • This is more of a personal gripe. It would've been cool to see the Illuminati Diamond as opposed to the Vatican Seal.

I get that the producers of the movie and Ron Howard wanted to make this movie more action-oriented than Da Vinci Code, but there were so many great moments of dialogue and monologue in the book that were omitted in the movie. I wish there were a director with a hybrid vision of Edward Berger (Conclave) and James Hawes (The Amateur) to handle an adaptation of Angels & Demons. Also, I think it'd make for a better show. Maybe that's what is really the issue - 2+ hour runtimes just can't capture the magic of the books.

Connecting Altair's Story for Assassin's Creed 1 Resynced?

With talk of Assassin's Creed 1 being resynced, what do you all think of all of Altair's spin-off games and appearances being integrated into the original game? Do you think it could be brought together cohesively, with perhaps even additional content to tie together the gaps between them? I'm thinking of

  1. Altair's Chronicles
  2. Bloodlines
  3. Altair's Memories from Revelations

The gameplay adaptations could take some work for the first two since they were primarily released for Nintendo DS and PSP. Still it'd be fun to get those pieces of the story into one playable game.

The ACBF Steam Review-Bombers are Ridiculous

I was reading online that many of the people taking issue with Resynced are primarily upset because there's $15 worth of cosmetic DLCs that they feel obligated to buy for some reason.

That's ridiculous. Why are people even doing the math of saying all the DLC’s bring the game’s value up to $85 too? Nobody needs any of those extra things.

The same people calling Ubisoft greedy sound greedy themselves.

What if Arno started as a Templar?

Wouldn't it have been interesting if Arno were raised a Templar with his adopted father and sister* in Unity, and then turned to an Assassin in prison? It could've opened the door for a reference to Edward as well as an anecdote on unscrupulous person who found self-discipline through the creed. Would've been a great way of inverting Rogue too by also creating more tension with Elise.

*I know they were romantically tied together, but she's still his adopted sister.

Does it make sense that Edward is a natural in Parkour?

Considering he has long been a pirate and doesn't decide to become an assassin until later, why would he have any need to be good at free-running? I enjoy it in the game, and I get that it's a mainstay of Assassin’s Creed. When you think about it though, the game could easily make sense as the recent RPGs.

So Much For Being a Simple Comfort Game!

Who would think to intuitively use a sequence of Speed Runs to get to distant/high platforms?!

Purpose of the Game's Present-Day Story

With the death of Juno, I want to get a grip on the storyline. Is the following valid?

  1. Present-Day Assassins are using the animus to uncover opportunities to terminate another world-ending solar flare. Desmond "The Reader" Miles and Layla are doing so in the Grey by exploring alternate realities.
  2. Present-Day Templars want the world-ending solar flare to happen because it will empower them to seize control of humanity more easily when society rebuilds.
  3. Basim/Loki has returned to the present to bring his family together. He's no longer interested in exacting revenge against Odin

Spanish-American War Setting?

It would be the most *modern* Assassin's Creed, but I think it'd be cool to set an Assassin's Creed game during the Spanish-American War. There could be a Puerto Rican / Cuban/ Filipino Assassin navigating everything. If they want to stay away from guns as much as possible, they could also set more of it in the Philippines, considering the limited access Filipinos had to weapons under American occupation.

Think that Shadows would’ve been more fun with freer world?

When I was playing Shadows, I was upset with the movement through the forests. I wonder what we would gained without it though because then people would just complain about empty spaces.

What do you all think?

Speaking strictly on how it affects the open-world experience
