Most épp ilyen fél 12-kor szólt este.

Tudja bárki, mi ez a hang? :D

EDIT: Egyik kommentelő lefütyülte, pont ilyen. És messziről jön, hangos hang, kintről (nem pl. egy szomszéd lakásriasztója).

Milanese strap ultrasonic cleaning?

Did anyone actually try to clean their Milanese strap with an ultrasonic cleaner? Some guides say it might remove the glue from the magnets, or even remove the coating which is apparently a PVD finish that could come off?

I'm interested in actual experience of actual people who've done this.

I'm one of you now (just finished my first Egan book)

Diaspora was a wild ride. I absolutely loved it.

I was very VERY vary of starting to read it, because I was afraid it would be a chore. I saw the notes on his website and... Man. Even that I did't seem to understand at a first glance, how was I to understand an entire book of it?

I've been kind of wanting to read it just for the challenge, but put it off for like a year. For some reason after having finished Blindsight (which I also loved) I was ready.

And it is *so* good.

I do have a bachelor's in CS and I did learn about Euclidian and Riemann spaces, at one point I'm sure I was able to do the squiggly signs and make some kind of sense of it or even replicate a proof, but that was a decade ago, and I kind of went into the book being stupid at math again.

I think anyone reading it now has a huge advantage in understanding it because of AI, which is what I used for the complex passages. For me, math is just geometry described via signs, and physics is math applied to our world. So for stuff that went over my head (I'm quite visual but have a hard time visualizing the math described as text), I just made photos of the passages describing the math and asked AI to read and visualize them for me. Which resulted in it generating embedded HTML, so basically an interactive visualization with sliders, and seeing/interacting with the math as visualized, interactive geometry helped greatly with understanding the concepts. Sure, you can't easily visualize 5D in 2D, but you can project it to kind of understand it anyway. Plus I had to learn about bosons and fermions and how they work, but that's just fascinating, especially since that part *is* real science. And even if AI hallucinates, at worst I now have a fake understanding of the fake science :D

Another tip is to push through Orphanogenesis even if you don't quite understand it, because that is maybe the hardest to understand part of the book, it gets easier after. It's kind of like a hard skill check at the beginning, but you don't need to understand the nuances of Orphanogenesis to understand the rest of the book. And even if the flash-forward chapters don't make sense from the getgo, try to remember the phrases or re-read them after you finished the book, because *then* they'll make sense.

What also stood out to me is how Egan can do both cinematic action and deep science. Some scenes just read like as a movie script, while some parts almost like an abstract of a science paper.

I'm 100% sure some of the science and its implications still went over my head, but in addition to genuinely riveting (imaginary) physics and math, the surrounding story was also super gripping. The imaginary science was fascinating for me, especially in contrast to Seveneves (which was also very scientific but I found those descriptions utterly boring); and the non-science part of the story was also intriguing and satisfying, especially in contrast to Tchaikovsky's Children of... trilogy (whose story I found repetitive and unsatisfying, see my rant here) (and yes I'm still gonna read the fourth book).

What I found interesting that this kind of science I found attractive, while Seveneves' one just alienated me.

I guess I like my sci-fi with wild ideas (even if non-scientific, like the dimensional warfare or the Dark Forest theory in Remembrance of Earth's Past) and massive scale with a mystery at its core.

Maybe I'm ready for more Egan now.

Bőrápolás plusz?

Sziasztok,

Köszi a tippeket!

Köszi a tippeket!

People in this show seem too happy to die

And it's not even discussed that much. The scan is destructive. Meaning if you go ahead with it, you. will. die. It is a *destructive copy*. I don't understand how people don't discuss this more. They mention "your body dies" but they don't seem to comprehend or care that by the process of uploading, they do not go to "heaven" - a copy of them does.

Does that not bother anyone?? I'd *never* upload a copy of me if that meant I'd die (unless I'm terminally ill). I'd never experience anything in the cloud, since only a copy of me lives there, while I'm dead.

[Rancilio Silvia] long term storage?

I've switched machines and it seems like it'll take some time until someone buys it. I've just had it in a box for a week now, but I guess I'll easily have to wait weeks for someone to buy it. I didn't find much online about how to store it. I'm worried about the water left over in the boiler. Or should I not be? How do you store single boiler machines like this over a longer time?

Coffe corner inspiration

I have the opportunity to build a new coffee corner. I'll have about 150cm available (so I guess more of a coffee bar than a corner), and need some inspiration on cool espresso corners that would match my setup, since I'm very visual and have a hard time to come up with what would look good without looking. I've been to Pinterest but much of it is AI slop and am looking for ideas.

I'll definitely take my Meticulous and the Philos, also have a kettle, will probably add a standalone steamer down the line which will also be black (haven't decided what exactly yet).

For one, I'll have a tiny faucet bc. the kitchen sink will be on the other side of the room and I'll probably put the RO system underneath it. I've been thinking along the lines of wood/acoustic slat panels maybe? Some plants like Epipremnum or something, maybe 2 shelves with LED strips on the bottom for lighting? Looking at more darker wood vibes. Would 1m shelves look good? Centered or offset?

Do you have any ideas, exact products maybe that you could recommend? Shelves, counters, slat panels, anything you would recommend that you'd use in your dream espresso corner? Thank you for the tips!

[Mazzer Philos] - Issues after almost 2 years of usage, very helpful support!

I bought a Philos shortly after it came out (in June 2024) for the introductory price of €995, and I've been very happy with it. Even though it doesn't have blind or 83mm burrs or variable RPM, I decided for it because of build quality and because Zernos are unreasonable to import to where I live in Europe. I've been very happy with it, coming from a Niche Zero, the Philos was my first grinder that made actually enjoyable filter coffee and removed acidity that I couldn't remove with my NZ.

However, when I took it apart for a cleaning a few weeks ago, I noticed 2 problems:

- The little rubber/plastic piece at the end of the auger started to come apart, so I probably drank some microplastics
- The cover under the funnel started to peel

Since the unit was under warranty (2 years in Europe), I reached out to Mazzer and I'm happy to let you know, they have very good support. I sent them pictures of the issues with my order confirmation email attached, and they straight up just said "okay we'll send you replacement parts and videos on how to install them", and after a little back-and-forth (the video was sent as an internal FS link so I couldn't actually watch it) the parts arrived earlier this week via UPS, so within 3-4 weeks of me reporting the issue.

They seem to be aware of the base cover issue, which, as you can see, is just a flimsy, glued piece of plastic, so they have a new part for it (I think newer models get delivered with this by default), but they said they're unaware of the auger plastic end piece disintegrating, to which they said "we have never received any reports of this issue, and therefore we are confident that it will not occur in the future", so there's no updated part, they just sent me a new one.
The videos on replacing were straightforward, as was the whole process, the worst/longest part was cleaning the glue off. Everything else was simple and easy.

So, kudos to Mazzer, and check if you have these issues, they'll help!
