RC Sowbelly

Carrying my favorite RoseCraft knife today. This sowbelly in bourbon bone and a clover leaf shield. While I'm on the subject of Rosecraft, has anyone seen the new Tuckahoe Jack that's going to be released in a couple weeks? It's a spearpoint in 14c28n. Maybe they're gonna start using this steel vs D2 in the future.

My biggest shed from the past

This is the biggest I ever found. This is on the upper end of my local herd's potential. The G2 is 12½" long. G3 is 8". Also a Euro mount with canines and my two biggest. Northwestern part of NC.

Rainy Monday Micarta

Out of my GEC knives this 92 gets carried the most. I love this knife. Thinking about trying to find another in Sunset Orange Bone.

Schrade S-OTHP

I've had this Old Timer around for close to 30 years now I guess. It was gifted to me by a good friend. The "HP" in this case stands for hoof pick but I've always used it as a gut hook and it works well for that purpose. It has cleaned many whitetails and wild turkey.

Firstly, I am not complaining one bit. This is the only "ss" case that I thought I was buying for a good while now. I normally go for cv or cs blades. I bought this one because I wanted this particular bone handle and wharncliffe blade but I couldn't find it in cs or cv. Well what do you know I actually had a stroke of good luck for a change..

I'm relatively new to the GEC brand. I just started collecting a few this year and the #88 Bayou Trapper has been my goal since I started. Not just the Trapper but specifically in the jigged Brazilian Cherry. I've been patiently waiting and hoping that one of the retailers would get one in because the ebay prices were just too expensive for me. It finally paid off and I think that I got a pretty good deal. I am as happy as a hog in a wallow 😁.

RoseCraft Birchfield Camp Jack w/ green jigged bone. I'm really loving the scales on this one. And I usually try to stick with carbon steel on my traditional folders but maybe this 14c28n will sell me on stainless.

My wife asked me to get her a small knife to keep in her purse so I stopped in to a local shop that is a Case dealer to see what they had. I grabbed this little Baby Butterbean in tru-sharp stainless with Tequila Sunrise Crandall jigged bone. She said it was cute with a big smile on her face so I think I did good. I almost wanted to keep it for myself.

Here are my Arks from Dan's for when I decide to finish on a Anat vs a Jnat. The black is a 10x3x1 and the translucent is 10x2x1. I have one side of the black finished to a 600 grit wet/dry sic paper and then I'll lightly scuff that with 320 grit so it isn't quite as slow. The reverse side is still like it came from Dan's. Yes they do come perfectly flat and ready to use right out of the box.

I've left both sides of the translucent as is for a faster working stone and if I feel like I need to go further with my edge I can just hop on over to the black. The majority of this stone passes light through the entire thickness of the stone but about 1½" of the white end is mostly opaque. It does pass light maybe a quarter of an inch into the stone but you can't see it on the other side. Dan's still considers this translucent but I would probably call it ¾ translucent and ¼ true hard.

I can tell no difference between any of the colors so if you're on the fence about what to get and you have to choose one, I really don't think it will matter. It all comes down to density and one can be just as dense as the other. Sellers will always tell you Black is the hardest/finest because it is the easiest for them to cut and yields the most usable stone.

Here's a couple stones that don't see a lot of use here and I will probably be putting up for sale soon. The Suisa Omura can probably be compared to a 1000 grit synthetic stone or maybe just a slight bit finer. It is a fairly large stone at 240mm x 75mm x 30mm or 9.4" x 2.9" x 1.18"

The Aoto is on the harder and finer side for Aoto. I would say it compares to a 3k to 4k synthetic.

It measures 205mm x 56mm x 41mm or 7.9" x 2 3/16" x 1 5/8".

I think you could call it NOS. I bought it new back around 2018 and it's been sitting in a cabinet since then. It has never cut anything and it has never been on a whetstone. I did strop it on linen w/ a little bit of 0.25u diamond spray applied. The copper bolsters have dulled a little over time but I'm sure they could be brightened up with some metal polish. Selling for $265 SHIPPED CONUS. Accepting PayPal only at this time.

Say hello to "Freckles". This stone is from an unknown mine to me but it's original seller says it is a Narutaki area mine. Not the Narutaki mine itself but one of the mines located on Narutaki Toishiyama (whetstone mountain). He says in his opinion that it is a Ozaki stone but can't be 100% certain. It has the tiny, fine fissures that look like a clump of wet cat hair like I have seen on Ozaki stamped stones so I tend to agree with him. He is also one of the last active miners in Japan and holds the only official Nakayama stamps and holds all of the remaining Hatanaka stock. He also holds the stamps that are on this stone. It is a 130x75x33mm or 5x3x1¼" barber hone. Asagi green and loaded with the most goma that I have ever seen on any jnat from any mine, hence the name "Freckles" Hardness 4-4.5

Fine 5. This one doesn't see much use with all of the bench stones I have and I may let it go in the near future.

This is my Nakayama asagi. It measures 203x75x40mm or, 8x3x1⅝". It's just about a 5 in hardness and fineness is a very homogenous 5+. If I am going to finish a razor on a jnat I usually reach for this one. If I have trouble getting the edge I want on another stone, I go to this one. If I had to get rid of all of my natural finishing stones but one I would keep this one without a second thought. I do kind of wish it had all four corners but what's missing is not enough to affect honing in the slightest. Plus it has that beautiful kawa on the side where it's missing. The kiita karasu copa is Nakayama also and I use it for a luxurious tomo nagura and sometimes I sharpen my carbon steel pocket knives on it for a screaming sharp edge.

Arkansas Whetstone(Natural Whetstones) Translucent and Griffith Shaving Goods "Surgical" Black Arkansas. Both stones are 8"x3" with the translucent being 1" thick and the black ⅞" thick. I paid $300 new for the translucent and the black $260. I have only finished one side of both stones. The translucent can be used on the back side but the black has a mineral inclusion that would probably be toxic to a straight razor but it could be worked around with a knife. I have bought 10" stones from Dan's recently and these just aren't getting any use. Both stones bundled shipped CONUS $400
