Thought bubble

Diagnosis usually says adhd symptoms need to be in 2+ settings e.g. kids would have home and school symptoms, with school being interest subjects doing well, others not and other behaviours.

But having abilities inconsistently in one setting or another must mean something similar to across different subjects? Like someone where at school the nervous system need to be safe, or the extra motivation from being around others, interest overcomes the barriers and performance is higher than at home. Then at home the energy cost needs to be paid and the brain goes back to standby mode.

Adhd is partly a thing where things are harder than intellect and actual ability would suggest. So the hardness is something else. In that case, doesn't it make sense that there would be differences in performance between different contexts, being with different people?

So rather than being a count against diagnosis, it might be an expected outcome?
