FMV has received the Swedish government's authorization to enter into the agreement with Ukraine. The intergovernmental agreement also includes support services and a comprehensive training package.

– With this agreement in place, FMV can continue preparations for the donation of the JAS 39 C/D aircraft, which is included in the government's support package 22.
The goal is to have an agreement in place this fall to be able to deliver the aircraft in early 2027.
This will be an important step in quickly strengthening Ukraine's air force and stepping into Ukraine with Gripen E.

It is now clear that Poland is buying three submarines from Sweden's Saab. The deal is worth 47 billion kronor. This was announced by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) at a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

– With our joint capabilities, the Baltic Sea has never been so well defended, says Ulf Kristersson.

Back in November, the Polish government announced that Poland intended to buy three A-26 submarines from Saab. Now the deal, which is worth 47 billion kronor, is signed and complete. According to the manufacturer Saab, the package also includes weapons systems, training and technical assistance.

The first submarine is due to be delivered in 2032. Until then, Poland will lease the submarine HMS Södermanland from the Swedish Armed Forces, so that Polish sailors can be trained in the Swedish submarine system.

According to Defense Minister Pål Jonsson (M), this will not negatively affect Swedish defense capabilities.

– It is in our interest that Poland builds up its submarine weapons and operates with Swedish-made submarines, so we can share development costs but also the same tactics and doctrine, says Pål Jonsson.

Every other submarine to Poland
The Swedish Navy has previously ordered two A-26 submarines that are currently being manufactured. The idea is now that the first of them will go to Sweden, while Poland will get the second, and Sweden the third, which Saab will then manufacture, according to a “zipper solution”.

The goal is for the other two submarines to be delivered to Poland in 2034 and 2038 respectively.

Several sources said Ottawa is exploring a purchase of 72 Gripens, which would create up to 9,000 jobs and be the largest defence industrial project in Canada.

Saab is continuing to refine its business plan to build Gripen fighters in Canada, notably by using the supply chain that will be put in place for the GlobalEye production, sources said.

According to the Swedish evening paper Aftonbladet, the Swedish PM will today announce that Sweden will donate an undisclosed number of Gripen C/D fighter aircrafts to Ukraine.

This will be as a first step of the upcoming Ukraine procurement of the latest Gripen E version that soon will begin.
