Modern fiction like Cast Away

Is there any modern (last 25-50 years) fiction like Cast Away that is written for adults? And that is not horror?

I found a few other posts like this here on reddit but all of the answers are either old/classics (like Robinson Crusoe, Swiss Family Robinson, Lord of the Flies) or childrens/YA books (Island of the Blue Dolphins, Hatchet, The Cay) or nonfiction.

I feel like this must be a genre people are writing in but I'm having trouble finding anything. Have you read anything like this recently?

Edit: Since I realize this is a narrow request, any modern fiction book about exploring islands would do, even if they are not stranded there, thanks! Just really searching for island atmosphere and nature exploration.

Planting viburnum and chokeberry 1-2 ft from house?

How close would you plant Viburnum and Chokeberry to your house?

A few years ago I put in a border of shrubs around my house, including viburnum (nannyberry, arrowwood) and chokeberry (black and red)- about 1-2 ft from the house. At the time I was less experienced and thought I could train them to grow outward from the house. Now I'm realizing they have a rounded habit and will probably keep trying to grow into my siding every year.

Has anyone done this and have experience with it? Is it worth moving them to a safer distance and losing a few years of root development, or is it not really a problem to keep them where they are now?

How to support sharing of links and self promotion in my sub

I mod a sub for sharing personal projects / apps that people in my sub have made. The first post that was posted to this sub, the user got banned by Reddit, possibly for his post on my sub. (The link he posted looks fine to me).

Are there settings I should be aware of around posting links within text posts, and self-promotion? Best practices? I don't want people posting in my sub to face repercussions for posting links to their work.

Help me improve this simic draw brew

Put together a fun simic draw engine (aiming for bracket high 2 or low 3) but it feels a little weak and I'm not sure how to make it stronger. Tips? Suggested adds/removals? Please be kind I just play for fun.

https://moxfield.com/decks/eyx8ekPzwkmzeD35MD9NdQ

And before you ask "why is [[Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle]] your commander", because he has nothing to do with draw -- Yes I'm sure you're right and I should have a different commander. I have played this deck a few dozen times trying different commanders and just didn't have a good experience with anything else. These were some I tried --

  • [[Kruphix, God of Horizons]] - dislike tapping out my mana and keeping track of how much floating mana I have.
  • [[Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied]] - disliked spending 5 mana on a creature that can't block half the turns, since I don't have counter management here.
  • [[Tatyova, Benthic Druid]] - by the time I have 5 mana to get her out, I find I am not putting out much more mana to trigger her ability enough times for her to be worth it
  • [[Tishana, Voice of Thunder]] - comes in late and if I don't have much of a board state (because losing guys as blockers), her ability can be minor
  • [[Jolrael, Voice of Zhalfir]] - felt like losing lands in battle hurt my mana curve too much
  • [[Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix]] - haven't tried her in a while.. I remember it didn't go well but can't remember why, but I will try this again.

So, I've so far opted for Arixmethes as just solid ramp and eventually a big body that can make things like [[Rishkar's Expertise]] or [[Prime Speaker Zegana]] go bonkers, and I felt like the deck ran smoother. But I think I should probably be using someone else, just haven't figured out who, and very open to suggestions.

Basic deck strategy paths are

  • get out a [[Chasm Skulker]] or [[Lorescale Coatl]] and then draw a bunch of cards to pump them up
  • [[Homunculus Horde]] and go wide
  • Draw myself silly and then swing with a [[Sturmgeist]] or similar

Please give me tips, and be kind I am learning, thanks for your help!
