Most bizarre incident in your pub?

I was out with a friend I used to work with last night and we were sharing all the weird incidents that happened in our pub. One of them was when a hen party came into the pub, all dressed as princesses. Snow White and Princess Fiona got in a disagreement near the bar that ended with Snow White getting Fiona in a headlock, while Belle from Beauty and the Beast screamed at them to stop. Mulan, Cinderella and Jasmine missed all the action because they were chain smoking in the beer garden.

AITAH for telling my family that I will be myself when they aren’t around?

I (m) recently turned 30. I honestly don’t care, however my family has made a huge deal out of it, and seem to be behaving like I am approaching retirement age. For months on the lead up, my dad continued making comments like “Well I guess you should stop that. You will be near middle aged this year” The things he is referring to are basically any hobby or any social activity I have. He has told me to get rid of my games consoles, old (and expensive) Lego sets, stop going to my weekly gaming night with my friends, and has even criticised things like going to concerts or movies.

I could understand him wanting to give me hints if I was living at home and being a mooch, but I have my own house, a professional career and a great relationship. I just have a lot of different hobbies that bring joy to my life.

For my 30th, my friends surprised me with a party that was Nintendo themed. My parents and siblings reacted like it was a toddlers party, and told me it was time to grow up. Every single day since my 30th, my dad has made a comment about me being apparently middle aged.

The other day, my sister and I were at my parents when she asked what I would do if I had £500 to waste. I laughed and said “Lego Millennium Falcon” My dad scoffed and said “I’m tired of reminding you that you are middle aged” For the rest of the visit, I decided just to stay quiet and didn’t contribute to any more conversations.

As I was leaving, my parents and sister asked if I was ok as I had been very quiet. I told them I was fine, it was just that I had decided that in future I would only be my true self around my friends and not my family any longer.

My sister says that I am the AH for being harsh to our parents, but I’m so tired of being told to put anything I enjoy into a box.

AITAH for shredding an apology letter?

This is a VERY condensed version of what happened, as the full story would be novel length.

Up until a year ago I worked with Lilith. Lilith was without a doubt the worst coworker I’ve ever had. For eighteen months she made every day at work unbearable as she drove me crazy. She believed I was hired to be her PA (she was not even management, she had just been there the longest) and would spend all day making demands and berating me for not doing her job for her. She was bad tempered, loved to slam doors and break stationary and would screech and whine all day long. She also bothered me outside of work hours.

I kept a log of the amount of times Lilith bothered and presented it to management in an attempt to get her to leave me alone. It was normally about 50 times a day. Management didn’t want to seem to want to deal with Lilith, and put it all down to a “clash of personalities” This also made Lilith double down on her behaviour and her tantrums became worse. If I refused to do something for her because it was either not my job or I was busy, she would go absolutely nuts. I reached a point where when Lilith approached me, my entire body would cringe as I absolutely could not stand her. I was frantically looking for other jobs, but was having no luck.

At the beginning of last year we got a new manager. New manager was a lot more hands on with us than the previous one who refused to leave their office and allowed Lilith to run riot. She noticed Lilith’s behaviour almost instantly, and ordered her to stop bothering me. Lilith attempted a campaign against the manager which utterly failed and she ended up having one of her famous tantrums towards her. After being hauled into her office and being told her behaviour was unacceptable, Lilith resigned on the spot. The new manager was glad to accept it and Lilith walked out that day and was never seen again.

It’s a year later and work is really good. Lilith’s replacement is also a delight to work with. It took a long time, but I was able to stop feeling dread about going into work. I get to work a few days ago, and there is a letter waiting for me. I recognise the handwriting right away: it’s Lilith’s.

I scanned the letter quickly. In the letter she apologises for leaving her job so abruptly and thanks for doing my best at work and being “mostly helpful” She also requests that I get in touch so we can continue being friends!

I ended up shredding the letter. I didn’t want it in my hands. Seeing it made me cringe again. I literally never want to see this woman for the rest of my life. I told no one at work about the letter or who it was from, but when I told my friends about it they said that it must have taken a lot ot guts for her to write to me, and perhaps I should consider writing back to close the chapter on her.

AITA for shredding the letter and not replying?
