Vera downtime

Hey all, just wanted to give a heads up that the Vera jailbreak site is currently down due to issues with the server it’s hosted on. We’re working on a migration so this won’t happen again in the future, but for now it’ll probably be offline for a few hours at least. Sorry for the downtime, will report back when it’s up again!

some of the screensavers I've edited/created

Figured I'd share some of my favorite screensavers. The one with the cats is my own drawing (of my cats! ^_^); the two tree ones are my photos; the rest are other people's art that I edited, cropped, resized, fiddled with transparency, etc. Mostly specifically sized to fit a kindle pw6 but most should be pretty forgiving for a little cropping.

Do NOT factory reset your jailbroken kindle!

If you hit trouble or get stuck or confused somewhere while jailbreaking or installing things, ask for help instead of abruptly pivoting to the nuclear option. Factory resetting a jailbroken kindle without restoring OTA binaries can get you in a weird state that requires additional recovery to be able to either install the hotfix or official firmware binaries.

Only factory reset if you know EXACTLY what you are doing and what will happen and why you are doing it. If you didn’t understand the last sentence of the first paragraph, do not factory reset unless someone who DOES has instructed you to. This is not some routine troubleshooting step. This should not be a primary go-to in your toolbox. Stop reaching for it every time you hit a bump. Please.

[New Jailbreak 5.16.4 - 5.18.3] Sanctuary

I’m very excited to announce a new jailbreak for ANY KINDLE on firmware 5.16.4 - 5.18.3 (inclusive)! Sanctuary is a browser-based jailbreak by Ava, Alysa, and me (sparklerfish).

- It is compatible with any kindle model in the specified firmware range
- It does not require registration (works on blacklisted kindles too)
- It is fully on device and does not require a computer
- It uses the new jb.sh which means you do NOT need to manually install the hotfix or block OTAs after jailbreaking, this is all handled for you

Amazon has pushed new firmware 5.18.1.1.1 for PW4/KT4 (10th gen)

As of a few days ago, Amazon pushed out this new 5.18.1.1.1 version specifically targeting these older devices which previously were assumed to no longer be receiving updates. Unfortunately, it appears to break both Adbreak and the ability to de-DRM Amazon books.

Devs are poking around and trying to see if they can get Adbreak compatible again, but haven’t had success yet. They have confirmed that it at least doesn’t include the patch that 5.18.6 did that originally patched Adbreak, which gave some hope that simply adding the relevant data from the new versions to the jailbreak would make it work, but alas it seems something else unknown has changed and it won’t be that easy.

At any rate, until and unless a way is found to make Adbreak (or another jailbreak) work on it (which may or may not even be possible), it’s now important again for jailbreaking a 10th gen device to fill up your storage so you don’t get updated before or during the process. And if you’re already jailbroken, ensure OTA updates are blocked.
