Reykjavik suburb excursions using public transport

I will be in Iceland soon and will be spending a few days in Reykjavik. I won't be renting a car and was trying to decide on interesting places we can see close to Reykjavik.

Have guided tours for the usual tourist sights in Golden Circle and South coast.

I understand it is better to rent a car but I am looking on public transport options for places close to Reykjavik. Looking for a places which have good scenery or an easy hike.

Here is the list I compiled. Let me know your thoughts if these spots are worth going to and are there other spots I missed

  1. Hafnarfjörður - Bus 1 - walk through Hellisgerði Park and cliff. Go to Víkingur, Pallett Óvenjulegt Kaffihús or RVK for a drink

  2. Mosfellsbær & Úlfarsfell Mountain - Bus 15. Stop at Álfur Brewery

  3. Esjan - using 57 bus

  4. Heiðmörk if Esjan is a tough hike

Midgardur (Center Hotel) vs FossHotel 400 meters away

I am trying to decide between these two hotels for a 1 week stay this summer

  1. Foss hotel is 25% more expensive

  2. Are the rooms in the Foss nicer or larger? Which hotel would be better for a 1-week long stay

  3. Both the rooms rates include the daily breakfast. Which hotel has a better breakfast?

Thanks

20-30 km bike ride in Reykjavik

I will be in Reykjavik for a few nights in July and was looking for a 20-30 loop on bike lanes starting in Reyjavik

- I bike fairly often for 30-40 km in other large cities in Europe and US. Haven't biked in Iceland before

- Are there any routes you can suggest? Would be great if you have a bike route map (such as RidewithGPS or Strava)

- Where should I rent the bike for a few hours in the city?

Thanks

GE Gas Range GGF600AVSS vs. JGBS66REKSS reliability and usability

I am trying to choose between these 2 gas ranges

  1. https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-30-in-5-Burners-Smart-Free-Standing-Gas-Convection-Range-in-Stainless-with-EasyWash-Oven-Tray-And-No-Preheat-Air-Fry-GGF600AVSS/329371858#overlay
  2. https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-30-in-5-0-cu-ft-Freestanding-Gas-Range-in-Stainless-Steel-with-Griddle-JGBS66REKSS/206943135#overlaynless-Steel-LRGL5823S/312460439

==========================

  1. Which of these would be more reliable and less prone to breakdowns?
  2. I read some reviews which said that the JGBS66REKSS is cheaply constructed with cheap knobs. Is the GGF600AVSS better constructed
  3. GGF600 has capacitive oven control buttons and the JGBS66REKSS has electronic touch buttons. Are electronic touch buttons more reliable?

I am not looking for fancy features. Just a reliable gas range with an oven which heats to an even temperature. These are both pretty much the same price.

Especially interested in hearing from people who own and use either of these 2 models.

Thanks

Soft shell pants vs. regular hiking pants

I see some posts talk about wearing soft shell pants. However, what is the difference between soft shell and regular hiking pants?

- For example, these pants are described as ”softshell fabric” on the website

https://www.kuhl.com/kuhl/mens/pants/renegade-rock-pant/

- However, they are nylon and spandex like most regular hiking pants

- I am trying to understand what the difference is and when you would use these over regular hiking pants?

Thanks

I was thinking of buying the R1 Air to use as a mid-layer. However, I have seen some reviews which say that the R1 Air retains odors more easily than the regular R1

- For those who have used both R1 Air and R1, is this true?

- Also is the R1 Air less durable than the regular R1?

Thanks
