so i have seen some people saying that nettspend, osamason, xaviersobased, che etc. are all mainstream. but in this context, what does mainstream mean? theyre not like taylor swift levels of mainstream. if i asked a random person on the street if they knew who taylor swift was they would most likely say yes. but if i asked them if they knew who xaviersobased was, they would most likely say no. i mean in my opinion they’re still like underground, just significantly more popular. theyre def not “elite ball knowledge” but they aren’t like super duper popular either. underground music isn’t really a genre either, i feel like it’s a mix of different genres. so what do yall think? can mainstreamness be a spectrum? and do you think the listed artists are mainstream (if so, to what extent), or still underground?
