using filters on IR Battle system

Using the Heng Long Battle system (and I may use the LEGO DEI one later) has anyone tried using filters (maybe even sunglass material etc) in strips to degrade the signal hitting the sensor? I'm trying ways to replicate frontal armour being harder to penetrate so was thinking the right kind of filter stuck on the front aspect of the HL mushroom might degrade the signal beam at a distance- meaning a hit would only register if closer..

USS Do they calculate to exact age or round up or down to nearest month?

So assuming born on May 1st, do I lose out by an entire month of accrued benefit etc if I retire on April 3Oth or just one day? Obviously the calculator tool works on months - no doubt for simplicity - I'm thinking in terms of the actual benefit calculations.

UK USS pension Lump Sum question

So by taking all my benefits and savings in early retirement, the USS projection calculator says Annual Income £14k and Tax-free lump sum £98k (DB and DC). But everything I read says that only 25% of a lump sum is tax free. Is the USS scheme different or is the calculator wrong?
