Received Juror Questionnaire for Deceased Relative - City of Richmond
I don't get why my sister (who died more than a year ago) got a questionnaire for jury duty in Richmond. She owned a house in Richmond, so we went through probate in the City of Richmond Circuit Court, so the judiciary should be aware she's gone.
The few times I've had to deal with the City of Richmond government in the wake of my sister's death have not been fun. Trying to get services to her house cut off/transferred over to the new owner after it was sold was a pain: I had to call them 3x to finally get them to stop billing us. And now this.
Not long after my sister died, we got a letter from the state (I think it was from the Secretary of State's office) indicating that her voter registration had been cancelled (as it should have been). So, why is she still on the list of potential jurors?
The stupid form we got has no option to indicate that the potential juror has died.
To be honest, where it asks for "reason to be excused" I'm half-tempted to put "Because I died, you idiot."
It's too late to call today, but I'll try calling the number tomorrow to see what they say. I can send them a copy of the death certificate if they need proof.
